Canon zr100 digital video camcorder won't record or show picture on screen

I have a 1 1/2 year old camcorder.  It worked fine until the other day when, for no apparent reason, it won't show anything on the screen.  It won't play a previously recorded mini dv nor will it record anything new.  Also, it makes an unusual noise - it makes sort of a rhythmic whine.  While it's on play or record, the screen indicates that the tape is moving, but there is a hum or high-pitched "whine" every 4 seconds or so - it's a very regular sound that continues until the power is turned off.  I have tried to use the camcorder with both recorded and new tapes, and the result is the same either way.  I have tried it on battery and plugged into a power source.  Any suggestions?

I have just transferred a bunch of my old miniDV tapes to PC using Canon ZR-10. One day later, when I tried to play them again in the same camcorder, I only see a blue screen with all the indicators. It is almost like all the tapes got erased, which they did not, because all of them had erase protection at the time of transfer.

When I tried to record a video, the camera acted normally, showing the image that it was supposedly recording and all the correct indicators on the screen, but when I tried to play the recording back, I got the same blue screen again.

The kicker is that it is not my camera and I now will have to repair it since it happened while in my hands.

I have the same problem described by waterpolomom. I couldn't have described it better.

Has anyone actually identified the problem and had it fixed?

Camcorder will not show picture records only

CANON relied on Sony to install their CCD (The image sensor) on most of their mini camera recorders. The mount for this CCD Component is defective. Canon recognizes this and currently, (2009) offers a 100% free replacement of this part.

The effect of the malfuctioning CCD is as you describe, everything works except there is no image captured.

I took mine in and they repaired it, no questions asked, except that I may want a few other things fixed up while they were there. I declined the additional work and it didn't cost me a cent.

Find Canons website and they have a deeler locator there where you can find an authorized repair center.

Camera won't playback or record poss damaged heads

I think your problem is in the analog to digital converters. They seem to not be working, It is probably cheaper to buy a new camera rather than fixing yours.

Canon ZR100 Mini DV Digital Camcorder Problem

I have a Canon4.gif ZR 10 And it does say remove cassette often and recently it eat the tape and destroyed our recordings.
Does this have something to do was the round small battery1.gif in the front part of the camcorder?

Is this a consumer complaint I feel uncomfortable because we have alot of Cassettes recorded and we are afraid to play them because it might chew them up.
There is a mini cassette player2.gif that can play the cassetes ????

Need Help!!!! What am I going to do ??? [email protected]

Vertical lines while recording Canon zr100 camcorder

I'm positive the camera needs to be cleaned. The recording heads sound like they are dirty and it doesn't matter what tape is placed in there, whether it's new or not. Purchase a cleaning tape from a consumer electronics store. Make sure you read the directions very carefully. The tape actually rubs the recording heads so you only want to do it for a short time to avoid damage. Let me know how it goes.
