Gateway- built-in laptop Speakers not working

One minute my speakers are working fine and the next minute they are not. i have a gateway laptop. windows vista basic. My mute button is off (not checked) my volume is on 100, i have restarted my computer several times.....still nothing. but sound does come out if i use external speakers or headphones.... what could be the problem? please help me. My Gateway's right speaker stopped working a few days ago after listening to some music. When I use my ear piece in, I hear sounds from both speakers, but when I disconnect the ear piece I still only hear the left speaker.

Seems to me the speaker is just plain broken. You'll need a new one, contact your vendor for repairs, or you will have to live with using external speakers/earpieces...

I hope you will get your replacement,
Yannick.

Have the gateway fpd2275w monitor -it has external speakers added to it.I want to get rid of them. How do I go back to original sound ?

Hello Alex,

The Gateway FPD2275w does not have built in speakers so the external ones are needed if you want to have sound. You can either have the external speakers or you can use a set of headphones.

How do I install gateway GMAX2100 speakers to gateway computer

Hi Angela, first find the green plug and connect it in to your headphone inlet (if you are using a laptop, it usually comes on its right side of, if you are using a desktop, then it could come on its back). Plug each little speaker in to the red and white plugs located at back of the largest box/speaker. Set your speakers control next to you, plug the power cord, turn on your speakers systems, adjust volume at middle turn on your computer... And enjoy it!

go to this website http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/dlcenter.asp?cmpid=topnav

enter the model of your computer in the search engine on the right side of the page. locate the driver for sound for your computer and operating system and reinstall it.

incidentally look at the icon in the lower right of your screen that looks like a speaker... is there a red line thru it ?

Gateway- built-in laptop Speakers not working

Heat dissipation from the unit in the same area of the speaker assembly, especially since you stated that the RIGHT speaker was smoked. Similar problems occur with this design flaw with any manufacturer as HP has the same problem with some of their models.

Your heat exhaust is killing the speaker, and I would also bet that your chipset is AMD and not Intel, the latter having solved it's heat dissipationn problems.

A more aggressive heat dissipation solution on the motherboard or redirection of the exhaust past fewer heat sensitive components would be a design goal.

Speaker problems

First, make sure the speakers are plugged into the center green connector.

Second, go to Gateway's website and download the latest audio drivers for your system and reinstall them. That should do it.
