Probably no reset. If it has several years of use, then it could require a new belt. Belts are the most common problem if it has been used properly. The second common problem is a misaligned door switch. If the switch is not closed fully, the the dryer will not turn on.

Sounds like you have flat spots on your drum rollers.
If your machine is a front loader, remove the front of the machine, this will expose the belt and drum, remove the drum and belt, and this will expose the drum rollers.
Check the rollers to see if they have flat spots on them, if they do replace them with new ones. This should solve your thumping noise.
If the rollers do not have flat spots on them then you can try to lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil.
