Hi I just purchased a brand new Tom Tom GO 720. Tom Tom Home does not recognise the device is connected. Tom Tom suggested I return the unit and exchange it, which I did. The new one has the same problem. Tested on another computer, same problem. Any ideas?

That screen means:
"Do not remove the unit form the docking, the unit does read/write operations"

How do i download to tomtom for 720

Connect your GPS device (using the USB connector / cradle or a USB cable) to your computer / laptop and use the tomtom HOME software.

Assuming you have TomTom HOME software on your computer (if not download it from the tomtom website and install it on your computer/laptop), and after you've created a TomTom account and register your GPS device, you can use the HOME software to download software, data, maps, etc. to update your TomTom GPS device.

Tomtom go 720 won't start up

leave on charge for two hours, then if you have a sd card take the SD card out, hold down the reset button at the back of unit for ten seconds and then the 'on' switch for ten seconds.
STEP 1
Connect your TomTom to your
computer True True (``````````` (``````````` 0 95250 95250 clip_image002.gif via USB and open up your Windows Explorer and go to the drive. (It will be listed as TOMTOM (E) or some other drive letter).
Copy the Yellow Folders one by one to your PC. Ideally, save all the folders under a new folder that you name.
You may find that the folder ttntools and gns may not be copied. This is o.k. if they aren't.
STEP 2
Format your Tomtom via MY Computer.
STEP 3
Copy the Yellow Folders from the
backup True True (``````````` (``````````` 0 95250 95250 clip_image002.gif you made in STEP 1 back to the TomTom.
STEP 4
Open TomTom Home
Click on Upate Now.
Install the latest update onto your TomTom.
Once installed, switch your TomTom off, then disconnect if from the PC.
Thats it. From now on, make a full backup using TomTom Home prior to any updates.
Also note, that copying all the files will take some time.

Hi, i have just been given a tom tom 720 which isn't working. I suspect it has got a serious problem but would be grateful for any comments which you have about the problem. When turning on the tom tom it...

You could try gently inserting a straightened paper clip into the small round reset hole in the base of the Go720 and pressing/holding slightly on the reset button for c.6 secs. This should reset most basic problems.

Do you have the TomTom Home software that was supplied with the TomTom machines - if you open that on your PC and then attach your TomTom via the supplied cradle or USB lead it should provide a screen asking you if you want to connect to PC. If it boots straight past this you would normally reset it, as above, then restart and accept the question. This should then check the software on the device for updates etc.

Otherwise if no screen display it could just have been dropped and damaged, might be worth opening up to check if the backlight has been broken, though I'm not sure you can get spares (certainly not from TomTom). There is a firm at www.satnavrepairservice.com who will quote you for repairs that need parts.

My tomtom is 24% up to date. How do I update?

You need a Tom Tom USB Cradle that will allow you to connect your tom tom to a computer. Assuming you already have one, then just connect the Cradle to a working USB port on the computer, then with the computer turned on, plug your GPS into the cradle. It should come on automatically and ask you "Connect to Computer?" Just press Yes on the GPS screen and your GPS will attempt to talk with your computer. It will automatically download updates for your system software and any mapping corrections made by you of other users. If it does not automatically download updates, then you need to launch Tom Tom Home. Once this launches one of the first screens has a button titled "Update My GPS" Just touch this bitton, or click it with your mouse... and you will be away.

My computer will not acknowledge my tomtom go 720 is plugged in to usb connector power light is on in charging cradle but computer says not connected

I had the same problem. I tried uninstalling software and re-installing it. That did not help. I reset my TomTom Go 720 with the reset button on the bottom of the unit. The computer then recognized my TomTom.

TomTom 930 GO will not connect to TomTom Home

Try to use another computer or another usb port for it. You could also try different usb cable that fit´s into tomtom´s connector.

I have connected to my computer but nothing happens.

I presume that you are using the docking unit, so plug it into a usb with the tomtom turned off, then when you turn it on it should boot up the tomtom home prog.
If that doesn't work, remove any existing tomtom home prog from your PC and try again.
Download tomtom home from your CD or from the website.
If you have aquired the unit second hand it may be blocked due to security reasons.
The only way to sort it then is to mail TomTom and give them your serial number and an explanation !

TomTom 520 won't start

Hi all,
I got the following response to this little problem. Will try it out and hopefully my 520 will work again soon.

To ensure that your device is correctly connected to your PC, please do the following:-

STEP 1 Run the Registry Cleaner Tool

• Disconnect the TomTom and remove any USB devices from your PC, If you use a USB Hub, please disconnect that also.
• Run the RemoveRegEntries tool. You can download it from :-http://tomtom.com/lib/img/cs/S4S/files/RemoveRegEntries_TTGOv1.exe
A Black window will appear briefly then close.
• Make sure that you have got Administrator rights on the PC. Otherwise you may not be allowed to connect new hardware (especially the case when using office computers)
• Reboot your PC

STEP 2 Connect the TomTom

• Make sure the device is fully charged before connecting it to the computer. Ideally a mininum of 4 hours charge.
• Reset the device using a paper clip (see http://www.tomtom.com/6965). When resetting, keep the reset button pushed in for at least 20 seconds, but DO NOT turn the device back on just yet.
• Ensure that your TomTom has power connected to it. There should be a green light on the TomTom unit. If your device came with a Home Charger, please make sure that is plugged in to the TomTom also.
• Connect the TomTom to a USB port on the back of your PC. We strongly suggest that you use a USB 2.0 port and not a USB 1.1 Port. (USB 2.0 ports are faster USB ports, which are standard on all modern PC's, older PC's and some laptops may still use USB 1.1 ports which are slower and can prevent some USB devices from connecting properly).

STEP 3 Switch the TomTom On.

• On your PC, open My Computer
• Now switch the TomTom On while it is connected to the PC with the green light on.
• Look at My Computer, do any disk drives appear as you switch the TomTom On? If so, which drive letter is it?
• Double click on the TomTom disk.
• What files and yellow folders do you see?, please make a note of them and reply back with what files and yellow folders you see. If possible, please provide us with a screenshot showing all the details.

If the device is NOT listed as a 'Removable drive' under 'My Computer' when you switch the TomTom On, try the following:-

STEP 4 Check Device Manager

• Disconnect the TomTom from the computer.
• It is likely that you have a Firewall on your PC, in some cases, Firewalls can prevent USB devices from being recognized by the PC. We suggest configuring your Firewall and security settings to allow all USB devices to connect to your PC. Once you have done this, we suggest trying the steps above again.
• Go to 'Start' and right-click on 'My Computer' and select 'Properties'
• Select the 'Hardware' tab
• Expand 'Disk drives'. If the TomTom device is shown there with a red cross, right-click on it and select 'Enable'
• Check under 'My Computer' to see if the device now shows up as a 'Removable drive'.

We also suggest it is a good idea to try to connect your TomTom to another PC to see if you get the same problem.

PC does not recognise TomTom

Dont use a HUB, connect it directly to the PC.

Reset the unit by pushing a bent paperclip or pin into the hole on the bottom marked 'reset' turn it back on, plug it in & charge it via USB overnight or as long as you can in the car, make sure the led on the top is green, tap the bottom right of the screen & check the battery symbol on the unit says charging underneath.

If this doesn't help.
contact them about the problem...
