SOURCE: Unit seems stuck in the "drying grid" mode

I had the same problem with my GP. It has worked great for four years and only recently seemed to get stuck in this drying cycle. I cleaned the grid many times, cleaned the wires, cleaned the whole unit as much as I could to no avail. The trick: You need to clean the two metal prongs and surrounding area that insert into the bottom of the grid, when you inserrt the grid. they are sharp like nails, so take care. Use an alcohol based cleaners and clean the prong and around each base. This fixed the problem for me and she's back up and running well.

How often shoule you clean/change the plate? how do you clean it?

You should clean the purification plate once a month. Using a 1 part water and 1 part amonia solution, dip an old toothbrush into the solution and scrub the metal grids on the plate to remove any dirt or deposits on the grids. Remember to do both sides of the plate. After the grids have been scrubbed, rinse with warm tap water and allow it to dry completely or use a hair dryer to speed up the drying time.

It would be a good idea to scrub the metal contacts that touch the plates inside the purifier as well. The plates should be changed if they develop a crack or there is noticeable arcing when the purifier is running. Hope this helps you.

No my Breeze AT no longer gives me the Ozone smell.. what can be possible causes

Remove the purification plates and examine them for damage. If they are cracked, then they need to be replaced. Try cleaning the purfication plates with a solution of one part warm water and one part amonia. Take a old toothbrush and dip it into the amonia solution and scrub the metal grids on the purification plate. If there are deposits on the grids, scrub them until they shine and do both sides of the plate. Scrub the metal contacts that touch the plate as well. Rinse off the plate with tap water and allow it to dry completely for 24 hours or use a hair dryer to dry the plate.

Check the wiring that connects the purification plates for corrosion, that will often lead to problems.

My ionic breeze s1867 turns on and off will not stay on

I have the same problem and haven't been able to fix it. However, others have had the same problem and have posted their solutions. The sizzling sound is caused by electrical arching between the plates and one or both of the two tungsten wires that are run parallel to the plates (if you turn off all the lights and wait for your eyes to adjust to the dark before turning on the Ionic Breeze, it's a pretty cool light show!) Here are things found by others to cause the arching and what they did to fix the problem:
  • --dirt, lint, or tiny hairs stuck somewhere (usually towards the top or bottom of the plates or wire, and maybe in the grid contact points). Clean it better. Using canned air can help blow out the problem.
  • --water droplets. Make certain there is no moisture anywhere when you put the grid (plates) back in. Using canned air can help dry hard to reach areas.
  • --burn marks or melted plastic. These indicates a short circuit. Says dnewcombe1: "There is a feeler bracket that guides the two rear thin wires while the cartridge is being inserted. This "feeler" can melt and become disarranged." You can't fix this issue.
  • --build up on the ionizing wires. Clean them. It's hard. I took mine apart and used steel wool.

My ecoquest breeze is sparking the ceramic plate and has a little black burn on the plate. is my machine broken?

If the plate is cracked or the contacts or the metal grid on the plates are dirty. Take the plate out and inspect for cracks, if it is damaged replace the plate. If the plate is dirty, it can be cleaned with a solution of 1 part amonia and 1 part water. Scrub the metal grid portion of the plate with an old toothbrush and let it sit for about 10 minutes then rinse it off using water. You can clean the contacts with the same amonia solution. Allow the contacts to dry overnight or use a hair dryer to speed up the drying the plate.

Hope this helps.

I own an Ionic Breeze Quadra unit. It has been working fine and I really like it because it removes bad odors from the house. Mine has just started making a hissing noise. Any suggestions? Thanks

hi,
Sparking, popping, hissing or crackling sounds coming from your Ionic Breeze air cleaner are all signals that it's time to clean your machine. Once you've cleaned the collection grids inside the Quadra, the disruptive sounds will disappear

how to clean

Turn off and unplug your Ionic Breeze Quadra.Grasp the horizontal handle on top of the air cleaning grids--this is in the very center top of your Ionic Breeze Quadra--and pull the grids straight up out of the casingWipe the metal grids down, inside and out along the entire length, with a clean damp cloth. You may need to use more than one cloth if the grids are very dirty.Go back over the grids with a clean dry cloth to remove any water and remaining dirtPut the grids aside on a clean, dry surface and grasp the body of the main Ionic Breeze casing unit in both hands.Flip the casing unit upside down, then right side up, five or six times. You should hear a small bead sliding back and forth as you do this. The bead is cleaning interior elements concealed in the casing; if you don't hear it, your unit may be in need of repair.Place the casing unit back on its base, orient the grids so that the handle slopes in the same direction as the top of the air purifier, then carefully slide them back down into the machine.

My Sharper Image ionizer after I cleaned the grid now makes popping noises and then the red light that says drying grid comes on most of the time. Sometimes the light that says attention required comes...

You are probably aware that the ionizer uses a very high voltage (at very low current) to function. If you have used a cleaner of some kind on it, you could have made the grid sensitive to moisture.
I would remove the grid again and wash it thoroughly in distilled water to remove any residue that stayed behind, then dry it in warm air before reinstalling it.

Defect Hybrid GP

I had the same problem with mine, it would start then go into drying mode. I got it to work properly by smacking it around for about a week then it went back to it's lil tricks with drying mode again. After trying just about everything short of using it for target pratice, I made sure it was clean and dry then I turned it to the Medium setting, pressed the power button waited just a second for the fan to go into the meduim fan level, then I pressed the power button again holding it in before it went into the drying cycle, while I held the button, (don't release) I wadded up some tape to keep the button depressed then I put some tape over that to keep it that way. It works perfect! Note, mine never had any crackling issues to begin with, just the drying cycle thing so use this suggestion at your own risk. Good luck!
