Bought this projector (sharp XR-10X) refurbished a while ago and have been having some problems. After 20-20 minutes of use, the picture gets a bunch of what look like "dead pixels" and shortly thereafter the lamp shuts down. After that, it tries to reset itself, but the pixels come back immediately and it shuts down again and continues to do so until the power cord is disconnected.
I thought it might be a heat issue (it seems to happen when the room temperature is higher and the projector feels very hot when it happens). I have tried to use fans to cool it and move the hot exhaust air out of the way but nothing seems to be working. The lamp still has 90% life. One thing I haven't tried is vacuuming the filters. Any help you can offer would be much apprciated.
This projector along with Sharp cust service are very poor quality. I have 2 of these. Both blow the bulbs with 400 - 500 hrs on them. Then Sharp refuses to warranty bulbs. My last bulb blew with 2 days on it & only 6 hrs. Sharp still refused to warranty the bulb (By the way I only use factory replacement bulbs from Sharp). Very poor cust service. They say "bulbs are not a warranty item" Never again will I buy Sharp. If you read all the post on these projectors everyone says the same thing. Sharp knows there are bulb problems, but just passes the problem to the customer.
Use canned air and blow every bit of dust out of every vent and hole. if you want to, you can remove the top (6 screws on the bottom, and the 2 top screws on the back) and blow dust out that way. i could also be a power supply problem. from excessive heat, the capacitors on the ps dry up and don't work as they should, causing shutdown.
