Projection TV sets have two very common problems listed below.

Problem #1) Convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Ws-65611 color shadows

You need to turn down the voltage on all 3 crt's. You have a red one, a blue one and a green one. Slowly adjust the knob down until you don't see the shadow any more. Then adjust your color in the user menu.

I have a sony kp-53n77 rear projection tv i cleaned the lenses but i still have alittle to much red how can i clean up the color

Older projection set:

Not knowing exactly what it looks like I suggest two things: first in the menu look for convergence to see if it is off adjustment wise--it can be adjusted in customer mode to see if that helps.

Also either turn color all the way off (Black and white) to see what color the screen is with no color--if somewhat red you will need to turn the red screen control down--I can tell you where and how.

If screen is too red, red will be the prominent background color with color off or on.

Another easy way to LOOK is go to an unused video input---should only see "Input 1" for example in green and rest of screen should be black and not red to any degree.

Let me know with a comment here what you find.

Philips hd tv monitor 51pp9303h/17 dp TV 345 347he10839 TV receiver 3135020592 my screen is red and I tried to adjust the color nothing happen it still red can I fix myself

The model indicated is a older rear projection set.

If you go to a program that is black and white and turn the color off the screen should be something close to black and white.

There is a way to adjust the red screen down but it takes two people.

If you want to know how and what is involved let me know.

Have a Sony KP-65WV600, already replaced d board once, and replaced convergence ic's once also. Now as soon as I turn unit on, turns to red screen and shuts off, video that is, audio works ok, noticed...

Check High voltage Block. After replacing ic's (STK convergence ic's) you need to adjust Black&White scale.Turn ALL screen adjustments to min.Turn TV on and adjust screen slowly for each gun (I would start with Red first ) when you came to point that you see red background with white lines across, at that point G2 is too high (that will cause TV to shut down, don't worry just lowered adjustment and turn tv back on) so adjust to proper voltage and do the same for each gun. After that, adjust focus for each gun (again all controls are on High Voltage Block and HVB is mounted on front of your tv after you take speaker gril out) black box with 6 controls' screen RGB, focus RGB .
You should do that in dark room in order to get perfect Black&White scale, when all guns are adjusted properly you will see grey picture.Make sure 'Color" adjustment on your display is down to 0. Another step is convergence adjustment ,Flash Focus etc.If TV stil shuts off after all, your Red picture tube is short inside, take crt pcb from tube, make sure TV is unpluged from power before that, and turn Tv on .If stays On tube need replacment...good luck)

This is a convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually charge between $200-$300

Your TV most likely a convergence failure. ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

0667c5f.pngSOLUTION

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

The 3 colors are off, i have shadows and arches in the screen

It is failure of convergence ICs and these two ICs will be replaced on D board.
If you are comfortable with TV repair and know good soldering skills then can do the job easily.
Convergence ICs are mounted with sliver heat-sink on D Board of TV and part number will start with letter STK...

Color adjust

Greetings!

Adjusting the picture tubes is a scary proposition, but since you have already done it...
The easiest way to balance the gray scale is to turn the color all the way down on the set. The next part is easier with two people if the screen controls are on the back of the set. This is the part you saw that has six small knobs on it. There are control for the focus of the red, gree and blue and for the screen level of the red, green and blue. You will want to adjust the screen controls in an effort to get the picture black and white (this is why you turn the color down), hence the term "gray scale". Just make slight adjustments, take your and be patient. It will take some time, but you will get your picture balanced back out in time.

Hope this helps!
