I have a dell 1525 laptop. when i buy it. it contains two hard disk partioned. one is 220gb and 2nd is 10 gb. now i want to create partion of it. when i want to partion it. it says during booting no internal hard disk found. and i am unable to partioned it............... yes when i go to format my system with f12 with the windows vista cd. it shows hard disk. but i cant partioned. and xp cant support.........
Hi there.
Use the Vista CD to create the new partition, but first you have to delete the old partition first, (the 220GB partition not the 10GB one because that will be the recovery partition).
Get a calculator and work out your new partition, for example 50GB is 50x1024MB so that will be 51200MB.
When you have deleted the 220GB partition select NEW and input your newly worked out partition and carry on from there, to activate the other partition just format it.
Please post back with the results and for anymore help if needed.
Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!
That happens because the BIOS uses a SATA controller that is not included in Windows XP install disk.
Usually you can solve the problem going to BIOS settings and changing SATA/RAID settings.Check your BIOS settings, and disable SATA RAID mode. This is done in different ways depending on the BIOS.
On HP/Compaq computers for example you press F2 on startup to enter BIOS, then disable SATA mode on bios settings.
On other makes the procedure can be slightly different.
Another way to fix the problem, is by creating your own XP setup disk with SATA drivers included, see: Resolving "Setup did not find any hard disk drives" during Windows .

If you are trying to partition the 10gb maybe it is where the restore files is residing if this unit have a feature of restoring using restore disc.
Are you trying to partition from within Vista, or by booting for 3rd party software? Also, being a laptop, it is most like one single drive that has already be partitioned into the two drives you describe.
