My classic Maytag washer makes a extreme thumping noise when it's in spin cycle. It fills with water fine, and washes the clothes fine.
It even spins fine until toward the end of the cycle. Then it makes this incrediable thumping sound. The outter case of the machine doesn't vibrate or shake, just the tub. I tried rearranging the load etc. but this does not help. Outside of this, the washer runs good, and cleans the clothes.
I'm not really sure what the model number is, the washer is over 36 years old. My wife and I got this the year we were married.
Any suggestions short of replacing this machine ? Thanks.....
My guess is that one of the three counterweights have separated from their support. Probably rusted away.
36 years is quite a feat. Today's machines would be lucky to 1/3 of that life.
Sounds like its time to go shopping.
