How do you get to the starter spring on a Craftsman 358.797770

If the cover where the rope winds up has pop rivets, then get a pop rivet tool and some replacement pop rivets of the correct diameter before you drill out the rivets in the cover. If the cover has bolts holding it on, then just remove the bolts to uncover the the whole mechanism.

Remove grill

the front grille if I remember correctly is held in by clips and plastic removable rivets. most of the removable rivets are simple. either pull the center up and remove rivet or push center in and remove rivet. there may be 2-4 bolts on the radiator support bracket usually 8-10mm bolts

Window lift motor has gone out... have the new one but there is not manual to show how to replace it

O.k. this is how you do it. First remove your inside door panel. After you have the door panel removed you will see a layer of plastic that you will have to either pull off or cut. After you pull the plastic off of the door you should see the window motor. Now when you look at the motor take note as to whether the window it connected to the window regulator with bolts or with rivets. It your motor is connected with bolts simply unplug the motor take out the 3 bolts and remove the motor. Then you replace the motor the same way you took it off. Now if your window motor is riveted in you will need to drill out the rivets. In order to do that you will need an electric drill and a drill bit that is just a little larger then the rivet head. After you get the rivets out you will have to replace them with nuts and bolt. I hope this helps you out. Replacing a window motor is fairly easy, and I know you do fine. Good luck and best wishes.

Window Regulators and Motors - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

NOTE Some window regulators are retained at least in part, by heavy-duty pull rivets. To remove these rivets, the center mandrel must be pushed through with a small punch, and the rivet(s) drilled out with a 3 / 16 inch drill bit. The factory recommended repair requires the use of the same quality of heavy-duty pull rivet.

Coupe and sedan front doors use a cross arm regulator. The following procedures are required for removal and replacement of both power and manual window regulators.
  1. Remove the door trim panel, as outlined in this section.
  2. Remove the plastic sheet water deflector and the energy absorber (foam pad).
  3. Remove the door window. Please see Door Window Glass, Removal and Installation in this section.
  4. Detach the electrical connector, if equipped.
  5. Remove the window regulator bolts and the regulator cam nut.
  6. Drill out and remove the pull rivets.
  7. Remove the window regulator cam bolt.
  8. Remove the window regulator from the vehicle.
CAUTION Do not attempt to service the window regulator motor separately. It is part of the window regulator. The regulator lift arm is under tension from the counterbalance spring and can cause personal injury if the motor is removed from the regulator. The door window regulator cannot be serviced separately. If defective, replace the regulator and motor as an assembly.
To install:
  1. Position the regulator by inserting the bottom through the access opening in the door, then rotate the top of the regulator through the opening while lowering the regulator to clear the top of the access opening. Align the holes in the regulator with holes in the door inner panel.
  2. Install the door window regulator bolts and tighten to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  3. Install new pull rivets. Install the upper left rivet first, followed by the lower right rivet.
  4. Install the door window regulator cam bolt and cam nut and tighten both to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  5. Attach the electrical connector, if equipped with power windows.
  6. Install the door window. Please see Door Window Glass, Removal and Installation in this section.
  7. Install the energy absorber (foam pad) and reposition the plastic sheet water deflector.
  8. Install the door trim panel, as outlined in this section.

Hope helps (remember rated this).

How do you remove the window regulator from 1992 ford taurus? He removed the bolts, but it appears there's rivets or something still holding the regulator/motor on. Do we need a special tool or something?

Yes, four rivets hold the regulator in place. You will need large rivet gun and some long reach rivets. The rivets are available from most parts stores (NAPA).
Punch the center of the rivet out and remove the head.

Need the change the driver's side actuator. Is this a repair I can do myself?

I'm assuming it's the door lock you're talking about. Yes you can do it. You need some tools. Hate to say it, but I've worked on so many cars & trucks I forget exactly what you'll need. 17 years of this & you can't remember all, lol. Well anyway, you need to remove the door panel . Put the window in the up positon. I forget if they were riveted in or bolted. If bolted they will be Torx, readily available tools are at most auto parts stores, sears, etc If riveted, then that maybe an issue. You need a drill,a punch that fits inside the center of the rivet,a hammer,& for re-install a hand riveter & rivets. To change the bolted kind, simply have the window up & door panel off, take the clip off the actuator rod, & I find it easier to unbolt the thing, then remove the wires. If it's riveted, take the punch & knock the center out . Drill the rivet out with a bit that is about twice the size of the hole in the rivet. You may need to wiggle the bit around until the rivet pops out. Install the new actuator using the new rivets & tool. You maybe able to simply use bolts instead, depending on clearance. Now it's up to you if you want to do it. I think you can!

Replace the window motor power window bolts and rivets

Take the panel off the door and take a punch and drive the pins out of the center of the rivets. Then drill out the rivets.( easy with the center pins out) Take out the assembly. Note remove the window before you start anything. 2 X 8MM bolts clamp the bottom of the glass. When down the most of the way the window will lift right out.
Replace the assembly and either rivet back in or use bolts and locking nuts. ( Loc Tight is recommended if you are not sure the nuts will stay locked. replace the window and you are good to go.
This should take about 1 hour from start to finish.

Power window not working

It is easy to replace, there are four rivets holding it in place. I just replaced my window motor. I used a flat head screw driver to break of the rivets. You want to make sure the window is held in place while you remove the rivets. Once I removed the rivets it can out with out a problem. Then when I remounted it I used 4 bolts and four locking nut. I think they were 1/4 nuts and bolts.
