Remove the motor together with the blower wheel, go to the local self service car-wash and use the engine de-greaser cycle (if not available, buy a can at the auto supply, spray the fan blade and let sit for a while) and get all the grease of the fan blades. make sure the fan blades are cleaned thoroughly. the fan will now ran quietly and will remove all the grease away. in the future, clean the filters often.
SOURCE: No Air suction into downdraft.
there won't be any noticable suction like with a vacuum unless the cfm rating is very high. the distance of the hood from the cooking surface is a factor too as you are sucking in room air besides the stove fumes and steam.

I have three 90s on my downdraft unit - 90 down from unit into slab, 90 out from slab to outside, then 90 down again. If you are talking a 6" or 8" dia vent it should not make a difference at all.

It's available through the GE parts and accessories store.
SOURCE: What size exhaust pipe is needed for downdraft?
I found the answer on the "managemyhome" website. There is a 'manuals' tab that you click on. Then just type in the model number and then you are in business. Thanks for this website. I like it
