Check that all drivers are installed and working in device manager as when I reinstalled Windows not all of the drivers installed and I had to do it manually. These drivers were the ones that give you access to the internet. These were network adapters and IDE ATA /ATAPI controllers.

Hope this helps.

What kind of computer do you have? The trick here is first to get the computer on the internet by finding out what kind of network card is installed on a internet connected computer do one of the following
1> If its a dell go to http://www.dell.com/support and click on download drivers enter your service tag number Download the network driver to a flash drive and install Connect to the internet and repeat the above process to install the other drivers.
Most manufacture websites will have a download page for the drivers but you can also google the make model and operating system drivers for example google acer aspire 1000 xp network driver.
if you post your make model and operating system I can help you better.

Ethernet controller and USB are missing on XP

Yes, the device-drivers can be downloaded from the Internet, to one computer, and then burned onto a CD-writable, or written to a USB memory-stick, and then the files can be physically moved to the other computer.

But, "which" device-drivers is completely dependent on which computer that you have. Some motherboards have "integrated" network-adapters and "integrated" USB-ports.

Easiest solution is to take an add-in PCI network-adapter card, and install it, and connect the Ethernet cable to its socket.
Hopefully, Windows will recognize that card, and automatically load the correct device-drivers from the C: drive, i.e., without Internet access.
Or, if you buy an add-in card, it may come with a CD-ROM that contains the device-driver.

Once the device-drivers have been installed, you will have Internet connectivity. Access: http://WindowsUpdate.Microsoft.com
and click "Custom" scan, and then click "Optional Hardware".
Windows Update should find the device-drivers for your motherboard, and install them. Then, you can remove the add-in card, and connect the Ethernet cable to the "on-mother-board" network socket.

I reinstalled Windows XP to my computer and now i cant get the internet. There is a yellow question mark and exlmation point next to Ethernet Controller and it has a code 28 error.

You should have had 2 cds that came with your computer. The 2nd one has all the drivers on it. Install the drivers and your problem will go away.

Ethernet not working after format and xp reinstall

Right-click the My Computer icon and select Manage, then go to the Device Manager in the list on the left and find the Network Adapter from the list on the right, right-click Network Adapter and select Uninstall. When you reboot, XP should find the Adapter and reinstall it automatically. Another reboot may be required.

If it still will not connect, go to the NIC Manufacturer's website and download the driver to removable media. The Driver Update option can be accessed in the Device Manager, but this time select Properties when you right-click the Network Adapter, and go to the Driver tab.

Corrupted network drivers

what OS are you running,
Try removing it and reinstall
if it persists then try another card
update drivers and this should fix the problem

another thing also worth thinking about....

Maybe time to consider formatting the system and reloading it again with a fresh install.
