I have a brick exterior house with a beautiful groove knotty pine interior finished wall with zero insulation in it. What I want to do is drill a 1/4" hole vertically in 3-4 different spots so the straw from can will fit and fill the wall cavity, will this work?
If you plan on doing a large area Brad is correct. The foam will not expand far enough to fill the entire space. This is made to fill gaps and around windows. ( The window variety will not deform , other types will have a lot of pressure) Also doubt this would meet any sort of code. Blown in has issues but would be better. Personally I would carefully remove the boards and install fiberglass insulation, but this would require good carpentry skills.
That insulation is a very sticky mess. The hole size that you want to drill is not going to be big enough. You are going to have to get creative with trim and you should use a dry blow in insulation. The R value of the expansion foam is not as high as a blown in substance. Also using the expansion foam will leave gaps in the open space.
Testimonial: "Brad, not sure I follow you. The foam will expand into all cracks to seal, be more dense than blow in also will not settle like blow in. I am concerned that it might bow the boards on wall."
