I bought a new ipod classic. when i open it from my computer it says there are over 1000 songs on it and when i open the ipod from windows media player it plays the songs on my ipod but the ipod itself says there are 0 songs on it. 0kb used and 0 kb free. whats the deal??
Re: Computer says songs are there iPod says there not
Your ipod will not function properly with windows media player. it may play the music but it won;t get functionality from the ipod. You have to use iTunes to get your ipod straightened out. Once you mount it on iTunes you will see the music and be able to add music and delete music.

The exclamation mark next to a title in iTunes means that iTunes
cannot locate the song associated with that title (original file cannot
be found). The cause for this is an incorrect setting of iTunes
preferences when copying iPod songs.
Before copying your iPod songs, setup your iTunes preferences as
follows
Open iTunes preferences (in the Edit menu)
Select the Advanced tab.
Make sure the box next to "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when
adding to library" is checked.
I don't have an ipod, but do you not just connect it to your pc, open ituned, select the songs from your ipod THROUGH itunes - drag and drop them into your library and they should copy. When finished, eject your old ipod and connect the new one. Drag and drop the songs from itunes into the new iPod.
Again I'm not sure if this is correct, but this is how most things function in itunes. If not, someone correct me.
