Sometimes my set starts whirring for no reason while watching it.
When I turn it off it sounds like a playing card in bicycle spokes as
it slows down. The sound usually starts off soft then becomes louder.
Sometimes it's so loud it's hard to watch my program. I removed the
back cover and looked around and it's not coming from the fan.
I have smacked the back of my tv in frustration --- and it helps! But
after a period of silent running, anywhere from a few hours to all day,
it starts whirring again. While hitting the back of my tv is a
successful short term fix, and somewhat satisfying, I need a more long
term solution.
Please help,
Thank you
Noisey, intermittant color wheel?? part of light engine assembly.
The fan noise is normal on this set. The lamps are cooled via this method. Your users manual explains this issue..and it is the fan as you can see it slows down after the tv is switched off..
They start spinning as soon as the temperature reaches a certain point..Thats why it is loud...The fan speed also depends on the temperatur thats why its louder sometimes...
How ever if you think its too loud you can get it checked with the showroom guys..But from what i have seen so far the fan noise is louder than that of x-box!!!And i do agree its disgusting!:-(
OK i will find it out and let you know..

I believe my cooling fan is functioning properly. The noise I'm
complaining about is much, much, much louder than a normal whirring
fan noise. Unless the fan is rubbing against something and stops
rubbing when I hit it, and I don't see how that's possible, it can't be
the fan.
There must be another component in my tv set that spins and
randomly starts rubbing up against something and stops when I smack the
set besides the fan.
Thank you for trying. Any more ideas?
PROBLEM SOLVED!!
There are only two moving parts in my TV. The fan and the color wheel. It turns out that samsung DLP televisions are notorious for color wheel problems. I found this website very helpful and plan to replace the color wheel myself.http://www.jangro.com/a/2006/07/24/samsu...
