Loud whirring. Not the fan.

Sometimes my set starts whirring for no reason while watching it.   When I turn it off it sounds like a playing card in bicycle spokes as it slows down.  The sound usually starts off soft then becomes louder.  Sometimes it's so loud it's hard to watch my program.  I removed the back cover and looked around and it's not coming from the fan.

I have smacked the back of my tv in frustration --- and it helps!  But after a period of silent running, anywhere from a few hours to all day, it starts whirring again. While hitting the back of my tv is a successful short term fix, and somewhat satisfying, I need a more long term solution.

Please help,
Thank you

I believe my cooling fan is functioning properly.  The noise I'm
complaining about is much, much, much louder than a normal  whirring
fan noise.  Unless the fan is rubbing against something and stops
rubbing when I hit it, and I don't see how that's possible, it can't be
    the fan.

There must be another component in my tv set that spins and
randomly starts rubbing up against something and stops when I smack the
    set besides the fan.

Thank you for trying.  Any more ideas?

    PROBLEM SOLVED!!

There are only two moving parts in my TV.  The fan and the color wheel.  It turns out that samsung DLP televisions are notorious for color wheel problems.  I found this website very helpful and plan to replace the color wheel myself.http://www.jangro.com/a/2006/07/24/samsu...

The fan noise is normal on this set. The lamps are cooled via this method. Your users manual explains this issue..and it is the fan as you can see it slows down after the tv is switched off..

They start spinning as soon as the temperature reaches a certain point..Thats why it is loud...The fan speed also depends on the temperatur thats why its louder sometimes...

How ever if you think its too loud you can get it checked with the showroom guys..But from what i have seen so far the fan noise is louder than that of x-box!!!And i do agree its disgusting!:-(

The sound on my emerson isn't very loud while watching tv or movies, but is extremely loud while playing video games

There could be a setting on this model in the menu to set the type of scene you are watching...like movies, sports, etc. Sometimes these settings will affect the sound. Also check all that is included in your sound menu. Test each setting in the sound menu.

My rca hd61lpw42 is having trouble. there is the loud whirring noise, and the whites on the show i was watching distorted and then the screen turned off. is the issue with the color wheel or the lamp?

it sounds like the lamp or fan. do you feel airflow? Unplug the set and wait. When you plug it up is the whinning imedate. the color wheel generally is the first thing to come on. If it dosent reach speed it will shut down

My Galaxy NVIDIA Geforce 9600 is making loud whirring sound

You can see if the fan is getting pluged up with dust. Yes I have seen lots of these do that. You can also take the fan off the card and clean it. or replace the fan..If you are having trouble already with gaming it is because the card is getting way to hot..

Loud Fan and Slight Overheating

most likely sounds like your hard drive. Mine did the same thing starting that loud whirring noise and overheating a lot. i took it into geek squad at best buy and it cost 199.99 for the diagnosis of the problem and the repair ( if you want just a diagnosis its 69.99) and then had to buy a hard drive ( i went for the 320 GB for 109.99) and they installed it for free same day in and out. took the whole process about 5 hours on a friday afternoon.

Loud whirring noise from home theater receiver

Sounds like a cooling fan is worn out. If the warranty has expired, remove the cover and there should be a cooling fan. Remove the fan. Try cleaning it out with a can of compressed air. If this does not work take the fan to best buy or circuit city and buy a replacement. I hopet his solves your problem!

Loud whirring noise when mains switched on but PC still off

Most likely worn bearings in the fans.

If that's the case, replace the fan/s.

GE SidexSide PSS26SGPASS Makes Humming Noise

GE refrigs have a variable speed evaporator fan motor that is controlled by a computer board on the back of the refrig. now the noise you are hearing is most likely the fan motor ramping up and down in speed (some of my customers say it sounds like a ghost). if its a continuous ramping up and down then the speed cotroller on the board is bad and must be replaced. if its just an occasional sound then thats normal and nothing to worry over.

Btw the reason the noise stops when the door opens is because the fan shuts off when you open the door.

Whirring noise. No other problems.

Sounds like you have a noisy color wheel. Very common on all Samsung DLP`s. The part # is BP96-00250A for model HLN5065W.
