Why won't my Cyber-Shot DCS-P31 take pictures?

go to view photo. press delete button located near lcd screen, and select delete all. or you can format the card from the menu options....

Follow the procedures given below to have a perfect fix for your problem.

• Press Menu button.

• Toggle across from REC Mode to setup

• Toggle down thrice from camera to setup 1

• Toggle across into sub menu

• Toggle down from four times to Initialize

• Toggle across again to the sub-menu

• Toggle up from cancel to OK

• Press center button to accept the OK choice

• Screen changes and so press okay again

• It should restart the camera

• Opening on the 'Clock Set' screen

Toggle down to cancel and use the camera and make sure that you have the camera to flash, if it works try again in the Auto function. If it is still not working dont worry follow the steps again two or three more times, As this is related to a software error message and not a hardware malfunction. If it is working then don't forget to set your Clock.

Connect your camera with PC through USB link and press Camera Menu, you will see PicBridge option there, select / enable it.

i had that same problem. check your image size, the camera cant zoom if the image size is set to 3.1M or 2.8M(3:2)

how to change image size:
turn on camera and leave it in camera mode (picture taking mode)
press the delete/image button
change image size until camera zooms again
VGA gives the biggest zoom range

Initialize function reset all data/ settings to factory defaults including date. I think, LCD Back Light of your cyber-shot is not working and its hardware problem. Contact nearest Sony repair shop.

You need to right click on the photo and select delect.

When asked if you are sure select yes.

I fixed my problem myself. Simply read the top of the camera where it says TO USE SMART ZOOM SET IMAGE SIZE TO LESS THAN 2.8M
Then go to the very bottom button on your camera (there are three) and press it and reset your image size.Then your zoom will work.
Problem solved.
