what kind of cable and connections?

  • ForestScott Jan 24, 2009

I have the same request. The wire length that comes with the devices is way to short. I can just barely get it on the desk top, never mind move it around for better reception.

You can use another cable, with a connector between them, you can find these on ebay.

My RC control only works within four feet of my boat. What is wrong ?

Check the Transmitter Antenna and battery. low battery means short range and the antenna could be broken. Have it checked by a radio modeller shop, but first replace new batteries and inspect the antenna. I don't know what brand it is, so I don't know what antenna you have, an extendable antenna or a short stub.

Only dash speaker is working in my 2004 volvo c70 is working

It sounds like a wiring issue with the antenna wire, and speaker wire, Since only one speaker is working. If the car has sat for some time, specially over winter, you take a chance of mice or other rodents getting inside and nesting/ chewing through the wires. If it hasn\'t sat for a while then, maybe the wires were pulled under the dash from passengers feet or the drivers feet pressing on them. Unlikely, but possible, another reason is they could have just randomly came unplugged/loose from the back of the radio. Check the balance and fade setting on radio to make sure that it wasn\'t adjusted to 100% front. Make sure the antenna is extended if it has an external antenna. If all else fails get a new radio, but you should still get radio stations unless there is a lack of connection to the antenna. I\'m leaning towards the wire connections, not the radio.

Am fm reception bad

FM reception is weak

What to do

• Extend the power cord as much as possible. The FM antenna is in the power cord.

• Move the power cord to adjust the FM antenna

• If you still have problems with FM reception, you may need an external antenna.

* Call Bose®Customer Service to request one.

The external antenna on your radio is a coax (round) design It needs an adaptor and an antenna which are cheap.

Easy to make, radio shack "F" connector 90 degrees or straight, to 300 ohm wire connections. Attatch a 300 ohm flat ribbon antenna cable to those two screws and plug into radio and see how your reception is. You will need to position the antenna wires to get best reception. I have hid them in back of paintings and so on.

Cheapest solution next to putting an extension cord on radio power cord.

If antenna is not connected will it turn on

The unit should power up without an antenna. If it powers up then you would only get hash noise on the speakers. You can put a paper clip with a 12" piece of wire to the input or where the ant should go to see if you are getting a signal.
If you have power at the unit then you may have a bad ground (-).

If there's no low Battery indication, it'a the antenna. It should unscrew and you can install another one the same way.

Sirius Antenna

There are several ways to tackle this problem, most of which would involve getting to the back of the radio, but before you do, make sure you have an "antenna extension cable". Then plug in the 'extension cable to the radio/sirius unit' leaving the other end to 'hang out' where you can then get access to the 'extension' cable. Then you can plug in the existing antenna when you're not using the camper or plug in new antenna that gets clear view of the satellite. Depending on your location and general direction of travel you may be able to use a 'home unit ' antenna on your dash as I do and it works very well. In my truck I often use a home antenna also, although I also have the large unit that bolts to the (tractor) truck mirror assembly.

The other solution is to find a CB repair place (often at truck stops) that is familiar with repairing, satelite antenna wire and pucks. Have them split the wire and place a male and female plug to accomodate the extisting antenna and the new antenna. This service will cost you about $30-50.00 They should find the parts needed at a satellite radio store that sells marine/business/home antennae systems. The parts are not all that common - or the CB fellow may connect male/female connectors that are unique to your truck situation - then any connectors will work but only on that truck of yours. -- Frank

I have a 2wire Gateway modem/router. I would like to extend the range by 75 feet to reach an outbuilding i use for an office. What can I do?

A couple of ideas come to mind, but basically 75 extra feet could be a problem. It's unlikely that you will be able to extend the range of your present router, but that's the first place to look. The antenna may have a mini-connector on it that unscrews. You can add a 5 or 9 dB antenna to the base unit and push the signal farther.

The problem you face is you might be able to see the signal, but you still can't talk back to it. There are instructions floating around the internet to convert a wireless router to a wireless bridge. A bigger antenna at the Gateway and a router wired as a bridge would get you all the signal as a point-to-point system.

Of course, an industry standard wireless access point, will have a bridge mode. Again, it might be enough to just get one of those and it will be able to communicate with your existing equipment without adding the high gain antenna.

A typical WAP with antenna is in the neighborhood of $90.

What type of wire to use bet. ext. antenna and wireless pci card?

20 meters is a LONG way to go with an antenna wire for this application. Generally it is not recommended to extend the wire between the card and the antebba more than 3 meters. You would need to use thick, low-loss, cable that is very expensive. But if you must, computer stores sell extension cables.
