Have you tried reformatting your hard disk? this happened to me when i tried to us PartionMagic tool. my hard disk stopped working tho' it's still showing up when i plug it in another PC. this is how i get it working again: i plugged my hard drive to another PC and i used DiskPart to clean it and i formatted it in Windows Disk Management.
it worked for me and i doubt, there was an error partitioning my hard disk so i needed to make it fresh again.
Get onlineand got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "SonySupport" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operatingsystem when requested. Download and install the Video drivers. You can also try Driver Guide at: http://www.driverguide.com
If you formated ther PC you may well need to reinstal the device drivers too. Check what Ethernet Controller you have and Google it for a driver. Try to get the driver from the company's own ebsite if possible.
First Make sure your PC has access to the internet
Click "Start" --> "Control Panel" Double click on "System" --> "Hardware" --> "Device Manager" Search for your "Sound Card" under "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" If there is a problem you will see an exclamation mark over the top of the symbol Right Click and Select "Update Driver" If you have the correct sound driver disk or driver disk that came with the pc insert this now and select "no not this time" then "install driver automatically" Alternatively Select "Yes this time only" to allow windows to search the internet If the driver is found windows will install it and may ask for a restart
If the updated driver is not found, follow the above instructions but do not select "Update Driver" select "Properties" and under the "General" tab your sound device and manufacturer is displayed
