Want to disable pop-up window asking for password & username
Hi,
Linksys Wireless-G Model wrt54GS
I am getting a pop-up menu "please type in user name & password" many times daily (when I'm working in Outlook). How do I fix this problem? I believe when the router was first installed, it automatically gave me a password and I don't know what it is although there are ******* in password box.
I called my ISP and they said this was a "router" problem.

Reset the router to default....the default username and password is usually on the bottom of the router..then open a web page on your pc and connect the router with a network cable..type 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 Use the generic name and password to logon....once logged in, configure username and password and wifi...once setup..save and exit..disconnect and connect router to internet modem...log onto pc and look for your wifi neteork name..cheers
no install disk is needed
Connect the Router (Up link to modem, Port 1 to computer)
Boot computer, you should get an IP address in the range of 192.168.1.xxx
Open a browser (IE/Firefox etc) on the address line type 192.168.1.1 press enter
You will be prompted for a username and password. Leave the username blank, password= admin
Once logged into the router, you can set the wireless settings then save and then you can connect via wireless. For Wireless security codes, you can use the default suggested by the router, or as I recommend, use an old 10 digit phone number as WPA key 8009993355 for example as it is generally hard to guess but easy to remember.
here is more info if needed

Configure the Router1.Step 1 Open your web browser, type " http://192.168.1.1/ " into the address bar and hit "Enter." 2.Step 2 Use "Admin" as the username in the pop-up box and leave the password blank. 3.Step 3 Connect to the Internet and click on "Internet Setup." 4.Step 4 Select your connection type from the drop-down menu. Choose "DHCP" for cable modems or "PPPoE" for most DSL modems. If you are unsure of these options, check with your ISP. 5.Step 5 Set a service set identifier (SSID) to identify the router and change the password. 6.Step 6 Encrypt your wireless connection using a Wireless Encryption Protocol (WEP) key. Under the "Wireless Security" option, enter a passphrase and click "Generate." This will generate a password which will need to be used by any client connecting to your router.
You can try to log into the router by going to 192.168.1.1 The Default username is admin and password admin. once you get into the dashboard for the router click on wireless, then wireless security. if you cant log onto the router press and hold the reset button on the back of the router until the lights start flashing then let go and wait until all lights are done flashing and that will reset to default settings(including username/password) then do the steps above
The steps I'm about to teach you is to create a WPA Personal Network Key to prevent random users from accessing and altering your network.
Windows XP:
Go to Start > Run. Type in cmd and press enter. A black box will appear with some text in it. Type in ipconfig and press enter. Some more text will appear. Look for the words Default Gateway. Next to them will be an IP Address. Type this IP address into your browser.
A diolouge box will appear, asking you for a username or password. If you have not configured this already, leave the username field blank and type in the password field admin. THe Linksys router configuration page will display.
Click the tab taht says Wireless. Click the subtab that says Wireless Security. In the drop down box that says security mode, select WPA Personal. Make sure where it says WPA Algorithms, TKIP is selected. In the WPA Shared Key box, type in a password that you are sure you will remember, or write it down. When finished, selected the button that says Save Settings.
Your network is now secure with the key you have made. The default SSID (or network username) is called linksys.
If you want to set the router to work only as a switch with wireless access point, you may need to get into its setup page and adjust some settings.
Using a computer that is wired directly to one of the router's Ethernet ports, launch IE and type 192.168.1.1. It is the default IP address of the router. Then it will open a window, asking for a username and password. By default, there is no username and the password is admin.
Once you're in the router's User Interface, look for a sub tab called "Advanced Routing" under the main tab SETUP. Then set router mode to "Router" instead of Gateway. In some router's, the choice there is NAT enable or disable. If it is the one showing there instead of Router mode, then set NAT to disable. Click Save settings which is located at the bottom portion of the screen.
Then click on "Basic Setup" and then disable DHCP server. Save the settings then.
Then your modem now will be connected to one of the 4 Ethernet ports of the router.
Make sure that your game console is wi-fi/wireless ready.
Check the wireless settings (SSID, Wireless Security) which are configured in your router. To do that you need to access your router's setup page.
Launce IE from the computer connected to the router and type 192.168.1.1 which is the default IP address of Linksys routers. Then, it will open a window asking for a username and password. By default, there is no username. Type admin on the password field.
Once you're in the router's user interface, click WIRELESS tab. Take note of the SSID or wireless network name.
Then, click on a sub tab called Wireless Security. You will find there the type of security enabled in the router as well as the security key.
These settings such as SSID and wireless security should be configured to your game console in order for it to connect to your wireless network through the Linksys router.
make sure that internet connection working fine first..if it is connect you xbox via wired or wireless(if wireless, make sure that you connect to your own wireless network and enter the wireless security if there is)...check if you can get an ip address, better set to obtain the ip address and dns of your xbox, if all set and still unable to access internet, access the linksys router setup page by typing 192.168.1.1 on the address bar of your internet explorer, when pop-up for username and password type admin under password, leave it empty for the username. Click administration tab and disabled UPnP. Check if your X-BOX working fine. Hope this help you.
1. open outlook. 2. tools menu 3. accounts. 4. select you account and press properties 5. select servers tab 6.in the incoming mail server...enter your account name and password. and check the remember my password check box.
if you forgot you account information. then you need to change the config within your router...to reset the router...press the reset button, usually located at the back of the router for at least 3 to 5 seconds.
