I buy rolls of bags you cut size of bag you want push the seal button then stick the bag in to seal one end then you put in food then put bag in press seal it pulls out air and seals but the heat strip does not get hot enough to melt the bag that's the problem the heating stipe does not get hot I am using food saver bag rolls
Could be the heating element (wire that gets hot enough to melt plastic) is going bad, how long have you been sealing bags with the unit? If you have used it for some time there is the possibility of build up plastic/residue on the the wire or the surface that actually comes in contact with the bag as I would suspect there is a coated surface the element heats up as opposed to the element / wire coming in contact with the plastic itself!
Does it hum as though it's vacuuming? If not, it's probably broken - the vacuum pump is out. It's cheaper to get a new one than attempt to get the old one fixed. If it hums, then replace any hoses you find or the foam around the drip tray.
I usually freeze the bag before sealing that way the food is not dry when wanting to use it. pour as much water off as you can tho hope it works for U also I freeze many pounds of fresh fish that way also

My husband is a fisherman here in Key West and swears by his vacuum sealer, but he was about to throw it through the window last week when it stopped working. The motor would just run and run, but the vacuum never kicked on. I found an answer online that solved his problem and may help some, but not all of you. Apparently, it was all about bag placement for us. When you're just trying to seal one end of the plastic to make a bag from a roll, make sure the end of the plastic is just on the front, flat heat seal strip and is NOT touching the black, rubber gasket that lines the vacuum tray, Also, make sure the end is NOT hanging over the gasket and into the vacuum tray. Apparently, the machine was sucking, but air was constantly come through the other, open end. Once you've sealed a bottom into your bag and have added your contents, then you put the open end (after making sure it's dry) all the way into the vacuum tray. Hope this helps, good luck! The same thing happened to mine and I found a really,really inexpensive way to resolve it. I don't use original foodsaver bags and I found out that their thickness might not be detected correctly so it won't vacuum. To compensate for this, I used an ordinary piece of notebook paper. I cut it to a size of 4 1/2" by 1 1/2". I set the long side in the middle of the liquid catching tray and let it lean back towards the heat strip. Make sure it doesn't cover the heat strip or it won't seal. Now I inserted the bag as the directions say, close and lock the top, and it vacuums and seals perfectly.
More and more folks simply stuff the bag into the "stuff sack" that comes with the bag. You start with the bottom of the sleeping bag and push it to the bottom of the sack, then keep pushing more in. Compress until completed. This saves the trouble of rolling tightly, and also randomizes which parts are most tightly compacted, so you don't compress the filling in the same spots over and over.
When you get home, store the bag loosely in a large box or very large bag so that it can stay fluffed up. (You do hang your bag on the clothes line or tumble it in the dryer when you get home, don't you?)
BTW: I have seen others with this query. What is "difficult" about folding it along its length until it is the size you want, and rolling it from one end?
Heating Element / Wire - After heavy use of the vacuum sealer, it is natural for the heating element to break. The amount of seals per sealing wire is dependent on your timer setting, how often you use your vacuum sealer and how thick your vacuum bags are. When you replace the heating element, we usually recommend you replace the sealing strip as well. Different machines have different sizes of heating elements but we carry five stock elements.
First you have to make a bag, so pull from the roll to the size you need, you might want to practice with a small one the first time. Press the lid gently and the heat light should come on, when it turns green open the lid and you will have sealed one edge of the bag. (usually red means it is heating and green means it is finished) To seal, place the bag over the vacuum nozzle to remove the air, usually pressing one corner starts the vacuum. When as much air is gone as you want, gently press the center of the lid again, and when the light is no longer red your bag should have the air gone and the bag sealed. DO NOT press too strongly on the center as that will cause the heated wire to cut the bag.

On most models of vacuum sealing systems, you cut off the roll the size of bag you need. Slip one open end of the bag just on top of the heating element over it about 1/8-1/4" and press down the lid to seal the bottom of the bag. Fill the bag and then place the open end far enough into the vacuum cavity over the heating element and close the lid and press down and hold until the cycle finishes. If you don't want a vacuum, just put enough bag material to cover the heating element but not into the vacuum cavity.

place the end of the roll just past the wire heating element into the sealer and press and hold the lid closed until the cycle finishes. (I usually do this twice in a slightly different place). Remove the roll and cut the plastic back far enough into the roll for the bag you are going to fill. Leave enough space to seal the bag after you have filled it. Seal the filled bag according to the instructions.
