SOURCE: Rattling post 2000 rpm in every gear

Sounds like the timing belt tensioner. I have that problem. Rattles at low rpm, goes away as you acceralerate. Looking to have timing belts changed and tensioners replaced.

SOURCE: LOUD RACE CAR NOISES FROM MY 99 VW BEETLE

This seems to be a classic case of "disentegrating exhaust system syndrome." There is either a hole(s) somewhere in your exhaust system or there is a leak somewhere. Probably the easiest way to tell where the noise is coming from is to start your car and just listen around in the engine bay, under the car, and at the muffler. Also do a visual inspection of the exhaust system to see if you can see any holes in the piping. I have also seen hairline cracks in the exhaust header itself that can cause the loud ticking noise that can be a little tricky to track down.

SOURCE: 2004 Ford Focus ZTS engine whine/ noise

The exhaust system on this vehicle has to be able to flex or it would crack at one of the joints, so it has hangers with rubber bushings to hold it into place and still be able to flex with the engine. Now grant it one of these bushings may have come loose or one of the hangers may have broke but I would be concerned about the thumping of the exhaust against the floor board. This could be caused by a broken motor mount letting the engine flex to much. I would suggest having someone inspect these.

SOURCE: rattle noise from engine at start up for a few

The oil pump is not getting oil into the top of the engine quick enough on start up

I have a similar problem with a Mazda

Got over it by adding a can of STP Oil treatment to the engine

That coats the surfaces better than the standard oils and cuts down on the noise and the wear factor

SOURCE: relaced transmission and now have a rattle sound

your torque converter is rattling that is the clutch on the stator inside is worn out... You can stall test your torque converter ...Do this but follow correctly. put on parking brake..on the asphalt,,,, block all four wheels...push the gas to the floor for just 2 seconds...down one, two lift off gas pedal quickly..
when your doing this WATCH your RPMs they should reach to around 2200-2400 between the 2-4 rpm if not the Torque Converter is toast!!!! If your car passes the STAll test then when you tranny was put back on one of the fly wheel covers are rubbing....!!!.

Thank you but that sound i was referring to sounds like the motor rattling when i hit the gas a the stop sign then it goes away in park i can hit the gas a never hear it

It very well could be an internal engine noise. Make sure the oil level is full. You can put the vehicle in gear and while holding your foot on the brake, apply the gas. If it is internal, the noise will most likely be there. If it is a high mileage engine, it could be a rod/crank bearing starting to go and will eventually get louder and more frequent. Most auto repair shops will have a mechanic listen to the noise and advise free of charge

Loud rattle noise started on cold start up but goes away. Now makes noise on/off throttle all the time.Sounds like cat internals or heat shield, inlaws have same car, same noise

Sounds like the Cat could be bad. Get under the vehicle and hit the cat with your hand. If it rattles then you know what your problem is, if it doesnt rattle then start check the belts and tensioners

My 96 chrysler lhs has a knocking/rattleing sound coming from the bottom engine and as you push down on the gas the faster you drive the louder it rattles

if the noise is coming from the bottom end of the motor then you have either bad connecting rod bearings or bad crank bearings.if when you snap the throttle you hear a double knock then its connecting rod bearing if not then its crank bearing.a collapsed piston can sound low in the engine and its usually a dull knock noise.if you have the engine running and the noise is there and you pull off one plug wire at a time(and reconnect it after checking) and the noise goes away or mostly goes away with the wire unhooked then the cylinder that the noise changed is the cylinder that has a bad piston.

2005 trailblazer sounds like a jet at startup. It goes away after 15 seconds oe so. can i fix this?

Depends, these trucks had problems with this, the noise you here is the electric air pump, it can be a little noisey, it should sound like a smooth jet engine bad as it starts going bad it gets a little louder but can still last a while (ayear or two), when it goes bad the engine light will come on, if its not too loud a wouldnt worry about it, even a new one will be heard, maybe not as loud but there noisey, it runs on start ups for a few sec -20 -30) hope this helps. good luck.

Blazers in park = rattling noise ..... Blazers in drive = whining sound & while driving on interstate (ranging 35mph-65mph) I can feel it hesitate when I press on gas almost as if it can't (but it doe)...

have you had the catalytic converter checked. When they break apart they will make a rattle ling noise. eventually the broken pieces will plug the exhaust and cause a lack of power feeling. When the exhaust is cold hit the bottom of the catalytic converter with your hand. If it rattles it is bad and needs to be replaced.

Rattling sound at idle speed

The rattling is a worn-out timing chain (rattling should be louder at one end of the engine). Get it changed now - they will eventually break, closely followed by your bank balance!

Whine from rear end

Sounds like a pinion bearing or rear axle shaft bearing.

I have a ticking noise when I get to about 15 MPH and gets a little louder until I hit 50, tick is still there but not as loud - also tick goes completely away when I hit the brakes

OK, c/v joint sound reasonable. or, outside chance that there is a bad hub bearing allowing the trigger wheel on the axle to contact the sensor for the abs. I'd go for the first idea though (far more common.) Look underneath and see if a rubber boot on either of the axles is torn or split...dead giveaway that the joint has become contaminated with road dirt and is beginning to fail.

Scraping noise when off gas and clutch is out

either the throw out bearing has failed ot the clutch plate hub has failed
possibly from the clutch plate being installed incorrectly and the hub springs are hitting on the flywheel bolts
