NO SOUND FROM CLARION XMD3

PURCHASED BOAT WITH CALRION XMD3 RADIO. WHEN UNIT IS TURNED ON DISPLAY WORKS FINE HOWEVER THERE IS NO SOUND, NOT EVEN STATIC. I HAVE READ THE OWNERS MANUAL AND CHANGED BOTH OF THE FUSES. ALSO CHECKED ALL CONNECTIONS- EVERYTHING SEEMS OK. THE UNIT IS SIRUS READY, PERHAPS THAT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT. ALSO HAS A "SECONDARY" PANEL TO CONTROL UNIT.

I have a brand new unit in the box and sat for a while while I restored a boat and when I installed it, there was no sound and the displayed lit up just fine. I do not even have static and everything has been double checked but still no sound. It's been over a year and cannot take it back. Please advise what the problem is. Thank you. Matt H.

I am trying to help a friend with the same type of problem with a Clarion XMD3. For a long time only one speaker would work, and he lived with it (should have taken it back to daler when under warranty, but didn't). Now there is nothing from either speaker, and problem seems to be no output, not the speakers. Unit turns on and displays okay. Have tried the other pair of speaker outputs (only two are used) to no avail. He had no manual so I will try the reset button, now that I know where it is, and a few other things. If I come up with something I will inform. The Clarion web site is useless.

I have an XMD3. Get no sound while unit is lit up and appears to be working. I suspect a ground wire to amp as sound occassionally has turned on.

I have a XMD3 with Sirius on a Larson boat. Had same problem - everything seemed to be fine on unit (everything lit up and CD showed different tracks and time changing), but no sound. I suspected a ground problem and checked wires I could see. Found one speaker wire that had been frayed due to faulty installation. As soon as I wiggled that wire I got sound on all speakers. Not sure why one faulty speaker would kill all sound, but it did for me.

Found the issue with my XMD3, mine was on a BBQ island that we bought. the radio was near a braided water line for the sink. The line was leaking around the ball joint, very small leak. Even with a rubber cover over the top water still show how got inside. I pulled the unit out of the island and there was alot of water that came out once the unit was at a angle. Not sure why it would still display, you think it would just die. Both fuse were still good. The back of the unit has vents. I will look for a new unit that has better protection in the back this time.

I had water inside, it would display but would not play. I saved $$, did not have to replace the system. I do like the system, sounds good enough on a bbq island.I disconnected and took the unit out and let dry for 1 week and then hooked it back up and it worked.

Look for loose or broken wiring connections. Swap front and rear speakers wires at radio and determine if problem is the radio or the speaker system.

Hello, i have a clarion xmd3, i bought it in 2004 and have a sirrius add on sara radio reciever. im trying to resubscribe for service. i need the radio to display sat radio id#. went to clarion web site...

You can get the # right off the Sirius unit (it's on a sticker on it - SID#).

Also try going between channels 1 and 184 (IE go track/tune down) it may show up then.

If not press and hold the T button for longer than 1 second. Then use the track up/down buttons to scroll through the menu. There should be a screen that will show Sirius or Sat ID or something to that effect. When you see that press the up or down button, or play pause and it should display it.

Let me know if that works.

This is typically the output IC not working. This can be due to a speaker short. The unit will need to be repaired or replaced.

XMD3 unable to select anything but satellite

i have had several problems like that. It is probably one of your controllers especially if you have the old oval ones. Go to the back of the stereo and unplug them, then plug one in at a time and isolate the problem to a controller.

Bottom line is that boats are a hrsh environment for electronics. Moisture, salt, and vibration all conspire to undo solder joints and electrical connections. 4 years is a pretty good life span on a boat. A solder connection within the unit could have let go. A good repair shop could probably fis the bad connection but you can probably replace the unit for less.
