When you have a good idea about what type or style of refrigerator you want, then you can get to deciding on what refrigerator size will be the best refrigerator for you. The refrigerator best suited to meet you needs is the one that fits your kitchen and also gives you enough space for storage with out wasting energy on cooling unused space.
If you buy a new refrigerator that is too large you will drive the cost of the initial purchase up and also have the added expense of cooling more space then you need to cool. Average recommendations call for about a 14 cu ft refrigerator for a family of four. If you have a large family then a refrigerator of up to 25 cu ft may be better. The refrigerator cubic feet or refrigerator cu ft is the size of the inside of the box or space available for storage. Keep in mind that refrigerators that are over 25 cu ft will tend to cost much more to operate.
To figure out the size of your existing refrigerator for comparison, you can measure the inside of your refrigerator. To get the refrigerator sizes, measure the height, the depth, and the width of the inside of your refrigerator box. So if you have a refrigerator that measures 30 inches wide by 30 inches deep by 48 inches high, you multiply 30 X 30 X 48. This gives you 43200. You then divide 43200 by 1728 to get cubic feet. In this case we get 25 which would be a rather large fridge size. Many refrigerators are not an exact rectangular box, but you can get a close enough size to estimate the approximate size of your refrigerator.
Refrigerator sizes can vary greatly and you need to carefully decide on what cubic feet refrigerator will best meet your everyday needs. Refrigerators size and refrigerator depth are probably the most critical decisions that come up when buying a new refrigerator.
Really you buy a new one for the hole it will fit into and the features it has.
What is the size of my Kenmore refrigerator?
On Kenmore refrigerators, the 3rd or 4th digit of the model number after the 3 digit prefix (106) will normally indicate the size of the refrigerator. After 2000 it is usually the 3rd digit that indicates the size. For example; a digit "5" could indicate a 15 cu. ft.

You would be better off measuring not the refrigerator you are wanting to replace, but the space within which it must go. If you go to the store with current refrigerator measurements, instead of the space available, you wont know what size you can get.
