IBM server dc can't boot due to system32\drivers\pci.sys missing

IBM server(domain controller) type x series 206 m - 8485 IRS is having two 80GB HDDs in RAID0 confign. It is not booting and giving following message.

''Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt : system32DRIVERSpci.sys and you can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original Setup CD-ROM.Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.''

Using Windows Setup CD-ROM the message come ''No HDD detected, press F3 to reboot.''

But it is observed that initially RAID0 confign is shown with single logical drive with capacity around 158 GB.

pls suggest remedy

You mention on boot that the server shows a logical drive of 158GB, which obviously means the server is detecting the drives ok.

Quite often Windows doesn't have the correct drivers to support systems using RAID controllers such as IBM ServerRaid, so this is probably why the setup CD states "No HDD detected, press F3 to reboot". When the Windows Setup CD Boots, it should at some point (on the blue screen) at the bottom of the screen state something like "Press F6 to load additional drivers". If you can get the correct drivers from IBM website, and load them by pressing F6, Windows should be able to see the drives ok. Hopefully it will then be able to successfully repair the error.

Windows won't start

Hi,

When you put in the XP CD and it boots off the cd, the XP setup files copy across, and at the 1st screen, you should be able to choose Repair. Press r, and this will start the Recovery Console.

When you are in the recovery console, choose your Windows installation (You will see what I mean when you follow the instructions.)

When you are sitting at the command line(C:\>Windows), access your CDROM drive by typing the letter followed by a colon, eg "D:". It may also be E:, F:, or G:.

When you have changed to the CDROM drive, type the following:

cd\ <enter>
cd\i386 <enter>
expand pci.sy_ C:\pci.sys <enter>
C: <enter>
cd\ <enter>
copy pci.sys C:\windows\system32\drivers <enter>
If it asks to replace, confirm.

Then restart the computer.

How to solve pci.sys error during reformating of the hard drive

You have two ways to solve the problem of "Pci.sys Is Missing or Corrupt"
Error Message When You Start Windows.

1.Booting with WinXP CD to access the Recovery Console’s Repair option,
and then copy from WinXP CD the missing or damaged Pci.sys file to
Systemdrive:\Windows\System32\drivers folder , Exit and Reboot.

start the recovery console and type:
set AllowAllPaths = true
expand d:\i386\pci.sy_ c:\windows\system\drivers32 /y
If you don't type
set AllowAllPaths = true you can't access the windows folder.

2. Booting with WinXP CD and then perform a Windows XP Repair Reinstall
of the currently installed system.

One of the disks in not readable and while booting i get a message of pci.sys file missing or corrupted and i cannot start the system

expand the missing/corrupt file from i386 on your installation media to the system32 directory on the server using the bootable OS CD, select the recovery console option, not the repair OS option.

Super G 802.11g/b

ok look in device manager down the list to your wireless card and see if it is listed, if so check that there is not a red cross on it, if so right click and select enable. if a yellow exclamation mark driver not recognised with card. If it is listed and you are unable to enable it restart the pc and press F2 or DEL to enter your bios and on the peripherals menu, see if the wireless controller(if it is built in card) is enabled. If non of the above works, then the code 10 would normally be refering to a faulty peice of hardware.

System32.ntfs is missing and corrupt

Boot into recovery console, and at the c:\windows prompt type: cd system32 cd drivers ren ntfs.sys ntfs.old If the ntfs.sys file is there and corrupt this will rename it. If it is not there, then it was missing. At the prompt type: copy e:\i386\ntfs.sys c:\windows\system32\drivers\ntfs.sys good luck
