Computer is booting from a non-bootable source.
New hard disk drive being added.
Seriously corrupted version of Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
Are the 3 reasons why this error will occur...
first of all is your Xp Cd bootable?

My laptop inspiron 1501 says ntldr missing

Hi ... The 'NTLDR missing' means that windows NT Loder file is missing so OS can't boot.
1- Check that you haven't any usb key or something like connected to ur laptop.
2- Make an update to ur OS by using installation CD and choose update option to re install NTLDR file.
About BIOS password you must remember pass or who make it to solve this problem.
I hope this can help you ;)

Hi I have formatted my hdd and than have copied some data file on it as private documents. After I have put on the hdd to try to install the operation system, but first black screaming is file NTLDR...

Make sure you are pressing the right key to enter the bios normally this is the Del key. Some computers use the F1 key and others you have to press Shift+Crtl+Esc once you in the bios set your boot device to your CD Rom. Put in your operating system disk. Then save and restart your bios. This should allow you to reinstall the operating system. The NTLDR is the boot file for windows operating systems.

You should put the drive back in the external caddy, delete the format, partition the drive for NTFS. format the drive and set as active.

NTLDR missing

I can get into the Boot First Screen but can't seem to change anything within it... These screens seems to be selectively responsive to my key presses.... I can get the bios screen up, boot order screen up but not necessarily do anything within them... e.g. I can't restart the pc using ctrl alt del when the missing NTLDR message appears.... also I have put an XP disc in and it says to press any key to BOOT from CD .... I Do so but obviously it doesn't recognise it so it gives me the missing NTLDR message again! :(

Samsung 200gb hdd

When u bought a new hdd, it shud not have any partition on it. but in ur case, I assume u have formatted it to ntfs but no operating system is installed in it.

If u want to make the new hdd as slave and have another old hdd as primary, that have already an operating system installed in it, then the problem shud be hdd boot priority in bios. Enter ur bios and check for hdd boot priority and put the old hdd to the top most order, then restart. this shud fix the problem.

If u installed OS in ur new hdd (win xp),
1) ntldr or ntdetect.com is missing on root dir. (c:\). If u have another computer that works and have xp installed, just put this new hdd along with the current hdd and boot to windows. Copy ntldr and ntdetect.com to your new hdd. Or another way is just repair using windows xp boot cd.
2)the windows partition is not set 'active'. to set active, boot into winxp setup and press 'r'. this will lead to recovery console. type ur passwrod for admin (def=none). use diskpart command to set active. for easy way, put the new hdd to another computer. boot to windows. rightclick my computer, choose manage. on left pane select disk manager. rightclick on ur partition, then set active.

Hope this help

Computer crashed and will not restore.

if u tried installing windows from a CD onto the HDD and it still says missing ntldr. seems like a Bad hard-drive.

you can restart by pressing control-alt-delete.

then, try booting from windows CD and repairing the windows installation. if it gives u file copy errors.then, it is a HDD failure. get a new HDD.
