I have found a website with a disassemble guide for HP but I was not able to find your computer's exact model. But, looks to me like you don't have to exert effort in locating the CMOS battery for HP laptops. Check this website http://www.insidemylaptop.com/?s=hp+pavilion+CMOS+battery and look for the type of computer which has a bottom panel that looks the same as your computer and click on where it says "Read the rest of this entry. I hope it helped you out in a way.

You need to remove the bios battery to reset the bios to defaults. With as complicated as some laptops are to take disassemble I recommend letting a professional in your local area do it. It should not be more than 20 or 30$
You have to take the keyboard off. Gently pry the plastic strip that is between the top of the keyboard and hinges. Unscrew the (2 to 4) screws holding the keyboard down. Slide the keyboard up and out. You should see the battery with 2 wires going to the motherboard. Pull the battery connector off the board, take out the battery and wait for about 30 seconds. Replacing it is easy once you have it open.
1: Unplug Power Cord from Power Supply in Back 2: Open Case 3: Locate Round Battery on Motherboard 4: remove Round Battery 5: wait 5 Minutes 6: replace the battery 7: Close case and plug power back in.
This should solve your problem.
If not try the solution below Clear cmos Typically to clear the cmos there are 3 pins with a 2 pin jumper, near the battery.
Pin 1&2 clears the cmos and pin 2&3 is default, do not do this when the system is running or it will kill your motherboard.
First, DON'T SHORT ANYTHING ELSE OUT!
Now, tell me how one sets a bios password, then just forgets it?
If you can prove ownership on a laptop as new as a DV4000, there are plenty of posts out there describing the proceedure for recovering the system. Occasionally even HP will helpout legitimate owners in situations such as this.
I'm sorry, but this isn't the forum for this particular problem.
Good luck
