We have two of these for my child and my niece. Both machines will not pick up the bobbin thread. Took it in and was told the timing was off. Dealer pushed bobbin and turned dial to pop it back. Used again and it did the same thing. How do I pop it back myself? Dealers cost money just to toke it in. Very frustrated with this product.
This is all i can find out for you so not sure if this will help you out. If it is not in the correct position, the needle will not go down and pick-up your bobbin thread. ... Also, make sure your bobbin is in correctly (not backwards) and that the upper tension disks of your machine arethreaded correctly. Make sure the presser foot is upwhen seating the thread through the upper tension.

If you thread is coming out all tangled continue.
I Had this problem and found I had missed one leg of the threading.
I had an experienced seamstress look at our portable and could not get bobbin working. I took thread and redid it ,seems I had missed leg that went down.
she did to now all is well.
Try installing a brand new needle (verify it is installed correctly). If it still does not pick up the bobbin thread, the needle/hook may be out of time, requiring service.
Most machines require that the bobbin in the case unspool in a certain direction its considered common knowledge I guess because it doesn't seem to be written in the text of manuals... but is indicated in the photos. make sure it's unspooling correctly.
Secondly. Please make sure you have the correct needle for your machine. Some machines do not use a 15x1 (most common needle) Let me show you. (see photo below) Clearly the 241x1 won't fit into your machine. BUT the 15x1 will go into the machine that requires the 20x1.... and the result is it won't pick up the bobbin thread.
try changing needles clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for loose thread or lint make sure the bobbin is inserted into the bobbin case correctly--if the machine won't pick the thread up from the bobbin correctly take the bobbin out of the case & turn it around & try it that way.
the bobbin case does not move, just the bobbin.. if the machine is still under warrenty, I would take it back & get another sewing machine,, and probably not from them
It looks right but its not. Try looking on the internet for threading instructions. The bobbin winds in two directions, I have never saw a Bernina but I have 2 new machines and the thread goes in and then threads back to the left. Its hard to describe. But if the bobbin isn't right it will not pick up the thread. Write to Bernina for instructions. There are websites that have the directions for free.
I cleaned the machine good with canned air, oiled it. I took out the bobbin case and cleaned it good also. I then noticed the tension screw on the bobbin case was loose, tightened it and the problem was fixed.
