Printer does not print

The two lights on either side (ink and power button lights) are flashing and the light in the middle stays on. When there is paper in the tray, it will feed the paper and print symbols and numbers in the upper right hand corner of the paper. It will go through all of the paper in the tray.

Epson cx3600 says not to press ink button unless green on button is on and not flashing but as soon as i turn on it starts to flash

The flashing green light on your Epson Stylus CX3600 printer is indicating an error with the ink system. The error message you mentioned, "not to press the ink button unless the green light is on and not flashing", is likely referring to the ink button that is located on the side of the printer and is used to reset the ink levels.
To resolve the issue with the flashing green light, try the following steps:
  1. Turn off the printer: Turn off the printer and disconnect it from the power source.
  2. Clean the ink cartridges: Remove the ink cartridges from the printer and clean the contacts with a soft, damp cloth. Make sure not to touch the ink nozzles or the copper contacts.
  3. Check for clogs: If the problem persists, check the ink cartridges for clogs and clean the print head.
  4. Reinstall the ink cartridges: Reinstall the ink cartridges into the printer, making sure that they are properly seated.
  5. Turn on the printer: Connect the printer to the power source and turn it on.
  6. Check the green light: Observe the green light and make sure it is no longer flashing

How to remove the ink cartridges?

r_1.gif Make sure that the printer is on. The fontp.gif power light should be on, but not flashing. r_2.gif Open the printer cover. r_3.gif Press the fontb1.gif maintenance button. The print head moves to the black or color ink cartridge replacement position, the fontp.gif power light begins to flash, and the fontb1.gif error light begins to flash or remains on. When both cartridges are out of ink, the print head moves to the black ink cartridge replacement position first. After replacing the black cartridge, press the fontb1.gif maintenance button again to switch to the color cartridge replacement position. 98a04.gif r_4.gif Lift up the ink cartridge clamp as far as it will go. The cartridge rises partly out of the cartridge holder. Lift the cartridge out of the printer and dispose of it properly. Do not take the used cartridge apart or try to refill it. 98a05.gif r_5.gif Remove the new ink cartridge from its protective bag. Next, remove only the yellow tape seal from the cartridge. Do not touch the green IC chip on the side of the cartridge. 98a06.gif r_6.gif Place the ink cartridge into the ink cartridge holder, and then close the ink cartridge clamps. Do not apply excessive force to the cartridge. 98a07.gif r_7.gif Close the printer cover. r_8.gif Press the fontb1.gif maintenance button. The printer moves the print head and begins charging the ink delivery system. This process takes about thirty seconds to complete. Have not used my Epson R1800 for almost 6 months. When I turn on the power the printer head, with the cartridges, stayed at the very right end, not moving. The paper and ink lights flash and the head just...

Your User's Guide is available here:

http://files.support.epson.com/pdf/r1800_/r1800_ug.pdf

After leaving the printer inactive for a extended period you should expect the ink cartridges to be dried up and the print head 'gummed' in place.

You will need to refer to page 82 of the pdf, Cleaning the Printer.

As part of cleaning remove the existing ink cartridges and while the cartridges are removed try and clean the print head of any ink residue. Note that if the red light is on or flashing above an ink cartridge the printer sees it as empty (dried up).

The print head will not move if ink cartridges need replacement; replace ink cartridges according to the red lights, likely all. Press the ink button to see if the printer will begin the charging cycle. If all is well the green power light will stay on and the red ink light will go out.

If you do not get this desired outcome try Cleaning the Print Head, page 73 of the User Guide. Hold down the ink button when the red light is off for 3 seconds. Run a nozzle check pattern; if nozzels are not printing a clean pattern, repeat this process up to 3 or 4 times.

How do you load new printer cartriges

To replace an ink cartridge using the fonth.gif ink button, follow the steps below.
1. Make sure that the printer is on. The fontp.gif power light should be on, but not flashing.
2. Lower the output tray, then open the printer cover.
3. Press the fonth.gif ink button. The print head moves to the ink cartridge replacement position, the fontp.gif power light begins to flash, and the fonth.gif ink out light corresponding to the ink cartridge that needs to be replaced begins to flash or remains on.
4. Open the cartridge cover. Pinch the sides of the ink cartridge that you want to replace. Lift the cartridge out of the printer and dispose of it properly. Do not take the used cartridge apart or try to refill it.
5.Remove the new ink cartridge from its protective bag. Place the ink cartridge vertically into the cartridge holder. Then, push the ink cartridge down until it clicks into place. Do not apply excessive force to the cartridge.
6. When you are finished replacing the cartridge, close the cartridge cover and the printer cover.
7. Press the fonth.gif ink button. The printer moves the print head and begins charging the ink delivery system. The fonth.gif ink lights start flashing. This process takes about one minute to complete. When the ink charging process is finished, the printer returns the print head to its home position. The fontp.gif power light will stop flashing and remain on, and the fonth.gif ink out light will turn off. The fontp.gif power light will continue to flash while the printer is charging ink. Never turn off the printer while this light is flashing.

Epson Stylus Ink Jet Printer

1. Turn printer off
2. Press the left 2 buttons down and continue holding them down while turning the power button on. (all 3 are now pressed down)
3. In 3 or 4 seconds, the paper feed (jam) LED light begins to flash. (middle button)
4. Within 3 seconds as the paper feed button LED still flashes, release all 3 buttons together and immediately press down the ink cleaning button (left) and continue to hold down for about 10 - 20 seconds. As soon as the cleaning docking button LED flash, release it. That's it! You are now reset and ready to go.
NOTE: This is a strict timimg procedure and must be done fairly precisely in order for it to work. It may require several attempts for it to work for you. But...it does work! Happy printing!
