Not keeping things cold

My refrigerator is on but nothing is very cold. The coils on the back are not hot either. It's plugged in and is humming.

Just had a similar problem, but it was caused by the fan that takes cold air from the freezer and blows it down into the fridge section. It had fallen out of its frame and the weight of dropping unplugged it from its power source. The freezer was real cold, but the fridge was practically room temperature and the compressor was running continuously as the thermostat is in the fridge section that is getting no cold air. Apparently this is a known issue with these...according to the service tech. He repaired the fan, but suggested that we get a spare fan and frame for this Haier as the frame was showing signs of rust.

Check to see if the compressor is running in a cycle. if the compressor is not cycling, you will need to replace the compressor and fan.

if the compressor is humming, it because of a faulty motor and relay(start device). replace the compressor unit in this case.

Frigidaire Side by Side Refrigerator. How to stop the loud humming noise coming from it please?

Question edited for clarity.

It sounds like the compressor is struggling / overheating / failing. When was the last time your stripped the back out and removed all the fluff and debris? It overworks the compressor and gets red hot when the condenser coils get blocked. The struggling compressor causes the humming. Turn it off, keep the doors closed and vacuum it all out. Clean underneath and you might as well clean the floor and walls around it as the plan is to leave it disconnected for 1 to 2 hours to cool down and settle the refrigerant gas/liquid. Some other ideas below.

The evaporator fan motor circulates air over the coils to help keep things cool inside your fridge. If this motor starts to go bad, it will make a buzzing sound as it struggles to circulate air. You'll need to replace the evaporator fan motor to fix this problem.

GE Profile refrigerator does not get cold enough to keep food. The compressor is humming but even after having it plugged in for 3 days it has not frozen anything or kept any of the food cold.

Could be the t stat not shutting the unit off..so it runs all the time untill it freezes the evaporator in the the freezer then it runs and runs and gets hot...or if it has had a compressor replace before..the freon level what not put back in thr right way..meaning its overcharged, or undercharged..this will also do this...The coils are dirty under the unit...

Freezer isnt keeping the ice cream and has a humming sound

That is a very bad sign, but before you unplug it pull the machine out from the wall and check to see if it feels hot back there as well. Then remove the lower cover and find the condersor fan motor. Its the only fan back there. I'd willing to bet that the fan is not running. The purpose of the the fan is draw air across the compressor and blow it through the condensor therefore lowering the temperature on both parts. When its not working/ running, the heat from the compressor and the condensor is pass onward to the machine and the machine then acts as a heat sink.
Also, if the machine is too close to the wall or the condensor coils are dirty you'll get the same effect, so be sure to check those things out as well

Humming noise from a 10 year old General Electric Refrigeator

Does it still get cold (means is the compressor still working) ? Find the tubes on the outside of the fridge bottom or back. They should be hot when running, if not you have serious trouble. If the humming is coming from the compressor and it is not running (cold coils) the compressor may be very hot then the compressor is shot and so is the fridge (due to cost.)

Fridge issues

Hi adamvovo.
It sounds like the compressor isn't running. The way you can tell if it is or not, is to pull the back off of the refrigerator, and listen, or put your hand on the compressor. It's the small black thing at the bottom, with tubes running into and out of it.
If you don't feel a vibration, or if it cold to the touch after it has been plugged in for awhile, the compressors' bad, or some circuit which controls it.
