I HAVE A VIVITAR  LENS THAT WENT TO ONE OF DAD'S CAMERA'S  WHICH ARE ALL GONE NOW. i WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT KIND OF A LENS THIS ACTUALLY IS AND WHAT CAMERAS IT WILL FIT.  WOULD IT WORK ON ANY OF THE NEW DIGITAL SLR CAMERAS?

SUBJECT LINE:  THAT IS WHAT IS N THE LENS INSIDE FRONT VIEW.  iT HAS A SLIDE SWITCH AT THE END THAT ATTACHES TO THE CAMERA WHICH IN ONE POSITION SHOWS THE LETTER M AND IN THE OTHER POSITION SHOWS THE LETTER A.  LENS IS MADE IN JAPAN...
IT ADJUSTS IN AND OUT LIKE A TELEPHOTO LENS AND HAS A ROW OF NUMBERS ON THE FIRST BAND THAT MOVES CLOSEST TO WHERE IT CONNECTS TO THE BODY OF THE CAMERA--THOSE NUMBERS ARE - 22 -16 - 11 - 8 - 5.6 - 4 - 2.8
THE NEXT BAND TURNS AND ROTATES THE LENS IN AND OUT AND HAS THE NUMBERS  16 8 - 4 - A RED LINE AND THEN THE NUMBERS 4 - 8 - 16  ALL OFTHIS IS ON THE SILVER BAND THEY CAN BE LINED UP WITH THE NUMBERS ON THE BLACK BODY OF THE LENS WHICH ARE IN RED 1.5 -1.7 - 2 - 2.5 - 4 - 5 - 7 - 10 - 15 - 30  THESE ARE IN METERS  THE WHITE NUMBERS BELOW ARE IN FEET AND THEY ARE  5 - 5.5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 10 - 12 - 15 - 20 - 30 - 50 - 100 - OO

Take the lens to a good camera shop and ask them what the mount is. They will be able to tell you what, if any, modern cameras it will fit on.

My asahi pentax camera has a serial #6320891. Could you tell me the year? Plus have a 50 mm lens, a 49 mm close -up lens #1,2 and 4, a 67mm lens with a 67mm hase -1 lens and a vivitar auto 215 flash. Any...

these days second hand photo camera's with film, are not worth much. Some younger persons (really only a few) would like to try these camera's for a while, but they don't pay much. Not knowing what lenses you have it is impossible to guess what their value can be. A 50 mm f 1,2 would bring more than a f 2 or even a 2,8.
Then before you could put it on ebay, you should at least shoot one film, to see if the camera still works.
Lately I bought a Nikon F90 and a F50 with a zoom lens and one was 30 dollar the one with the zoom was 20 dollar. both are in excellent condition, making fine photos with different lenses.
You could try checking on ebay, what they ask for a camera like yours, but perhaps you won;t even find one.

What adapter do i need to make a vivitar 52MM wide angle lens work with a Nikon D-3000 with a 18-135MM lens?

I'm afraid this will not work.
The filter size from the Nikon is 67 mm. and your vivvitar had a 52 mm tread. The step down convertor from 67 to 52 will block to much to use the wide-angle convertor.
I think you still will see a wider part in the centre of the frame, but in the end, the vignetting that takes place, will leave you with only a part of the picture to use. What stays will be smaller than what you pick up with the lens in the 18 mm setting.

Just try what you see, when you just hold the vivitar in front of the lens and shoot a picture. Take care you don't scratch the front lens of your 18-135. put a cheap UV filter, when you want to test.
See you only have a circular picture with this test.

I have a 12-24 lens and only use it once a year, so if you don't have a special purpose for a wide angle, don't bother buying one.

Using auto focus 35-55 mm lens on d40x will not take picture but if I use manual focus, I can take picture.

It is because the lense is only an AF lense. The d40x doesn't have an on-body auto focus motor so that needs to be on the lense. I have a d60 and have the same problems. You can use the manual focus on the AF lenses; however, to use auto focus, you need to buy an AF-S lense. It's disappointing I know, but that's the price we must pay for saving on our body lol

Auto focus does not work on the 135mm

hi i am sagha a camera repairer from mumbai, i have gone through such problems much oftenly,in your case i think it is the internal problem with the flex board inside the lens which is multitwisted on metal plate after prolonged use becomes stiff & brittle and creates hairline cracks on the pcb which in turn breaks the tiny tracks & leads to malfunction at 135 mm.

Vivitar 75-300mm lens

The Vivitar brand has been bought and sold quite a few times in the past 10 years.

KEH Camera has quite a few used Vivitar lenses listed on their website. They are priced very low, from just $4 to $49, so it's highly unlikely that the lens is worth repairing.
