SOURCE: DVD stops playing in middle

What might be happening is a misread of the disk or a buffer error, these happen often, and can be fixed sometimes by cleaning the lens, cleaning and relubricating the guide rails and making sure the rubber bumper gromets are not worn down. Now these are all of the mechanical things you can do. The problem could also be a bad memory sector in the play back buffer, or a store and hold voltage could be off a bit (indication of a bad capacitor). I hope this helps.

SOURCE: DVD video player problem

More than 75% of the time, the erratic behavior of dvd playing is caused by defective dvd disc.

  • You said you rent them from netflix.. so check the condition of the dvd disc surface first. make sure it's not scratched or dirty with finger prints or smuges.
  • always practice to hold dvd discs by the edge and do not touch the data surface(bottom).
The other 25% of time is the dvd player's inability to track the disc properly. Most DVD players on the market today uses 3-beam pickup tracking method. Sometimes the optical eye (tracking device) goes bad and start giving above discribed symtoms. There is a dvd player cleaning disc you can buy on the market (radio shack) too. It has little gentle bristles on the disc to rub off the dust on the surface of the optical eye of the dvd player.

SOURCE: DVD player plays 10 minutes and then freezes screen.

You may have a problem with the transport of the dvd laser. Open the compartment that you place the dvd into. You will see the spindle, the laser lens and the transport device that moves it during operation. The transport system operates on system of gears and drive rails. You must check and clean the drive rails and gears. Use a can of compressed air and blow all the dust and debris from the dvd compartment. Then use some cotton swabs with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol on the tips and clean all the rails and gears. Check the transport action by moving the transport to its most outer position and back to its most inner position. The action and travel of the transport on the rails should be smooth and easy. The gears should be clean and move easy also. These parts will require cleaning every month or so . Remember do not touch the laser lens with your hand. You should also check the lens it should look bright and shine. If not try cleaning it with a cotton swab and a small amount of alcohol. Rub the lens gently back and forth unit it is bright and shines. Now you can try playing a dvd and see if the player works properly. If this does not fix you problem. You can reset the dvd player to the factory settings.1.Press the setup button on the remote control.2.Use the left and right arrows to highlight the preferences page.3.Press enter to to enter the preferences sub-menu.4.Use the up and down arrows to find the default function and press enter. You now have reset the dvd player to factory settings Now again play a dvd to see if the player is functioning normally. If not you may have a more serious problem with the drive motor or power supply circuits. you can call Insignia customer service support at this telephone number.1-877-467-4289. Give them the model number of you dvd player and tell them the problem you are having with the loss of operation during the playing of a dvd. They will be able to tell you how to get testing and service for you dvd player. I hope this information helps you with your problem.

SOURCE: I have the LG BD390.

I had the exact same problem with my BD390 and another LG home theater system, both with the current firmware updates. I noticed others have posted this issue on various sites as well. I called LG and the guy I spoke with seems to have been coached pretty well on the scenes where this problem is occuring since he could sight the exact scenes that were giving me the problem. He claimed the blu ray probably isn't exactly 1080i or 1080p and that the player is probably having problems processing the resolution so I should lower it to 720p. This didn't fix the problem and didn't help explain why my blu ray player which plays plenty of other high resolution movies only has a problem with this movie. I think a firmware update is needed to fix the issue but I'm not holding my breath that LG will be proactive in getting that out soon.

Testimonial: "I think your right about the LG person. And maybe they will do a firmware update. So far this is the only movie. DVD of Iron Man II was fine. "

Hi, DVD drive issue, new TOSHIBA A660-17t laptop. DVD movies freeze after sometime (at various points). Tried different players - no help. Those movies work on other laptop. Movies from HDD...

The problem here is with the lens. It is weakened by constant playing of media.
It is usually not very advisable to watch movies, or play songs directly from the DVD drive. This is because this damages the lens especially when you rewind and fast forward on it.
When ever you want to watch a movie, it is best you copy it onto your HDD first, then watch. You could delete it later when you are done if you are 'space conscious'.
In the mean time, you would have your lens checked, and probalbly changed.

I hope that this was helpful?
Have a nice day.

Sound and video playback do not match

No button or any control to rectifier this problem. Depend the movies quality when you fast forward the system control and audio video processing or it call out MPEG2 chipset they run like double speed sometimes it not fast enough then you end up with sound and video not SYNC however you can fix that by remove AC lead for 30sec then plug in back now it should work OK or when you fast forward use X8 or X16 NOT X32 times specialy with DVD copy
Alternatifly if your DVD player still under warranty it might have a update firmware to correct this problem

Jsi js4110

The only operations available on the JSI JS4110 without a remote are play, pause, stop, and eject. Since this DVD player "remembers" position of the movie, a different DVD would have to be inserted and played to start that movie over from the beginning. As for fast-forward, this is only available with the remote.

Dvd stops

Hi "DVD players with freezing video", is a common problem, and is usually a sign of a bad laser, or video processor, that give out after they heat up part way through a movie, but what you describe about fast-forwarding a bit, and the problem goes away, would lead me to believe that the problem is not either of those. It sounds like there may be possibly some obstruction on the sled rails that the laser rides on, or sometimes the nylon gear that moves the laser splits, or has dirt in the teeth that can cause this problem. It sticks at a certain spot, then once you get past that spot it operates fine. If it was a single disk player, I would say it would be worth taking the cover off to see what you could see, (being careful not to expose your eyes to laser radiation,)but being a multi player, it is very difficult even for a tech to watch the mech operate. I hate to say this, but I would advise you shop around for a repair place that has a low bench fee to check it out, and if it's dirt in the teeth, it should not be an expensive repair. I don't know what you paid for it, but Onkyo has been a high end brand, and it's a multi player, so it may well be worth it. I hope this helps you in some way!
