Visio 42" 1080p wont power up

Last night I was watching the game and all the sudden there was a loud "pop" sound that came from the tv and it shut down. No other power to the house went off and there we no storms out. Also, I have the tv and all my a/v equipment run through a very high end surge protector. None of the other equipment went off. I switched the plug to another wall plug in and it still didnt work. I am wondering if it is the power source inside the tv because the Visio symbol below the screen is not lit up. It usually stays orange when the tv is off but plugged in. There doesnt seem to be any power getting to the tv. Any ideas?

Sounds like the power supply section in your tv has a bad component. Probably a bad capacitor or a surface mounted diode. One thing is for sure: something has shorted and is causing your power supply section to not fire up. Suprising to me because Visio has a good track record.

It could be as simple as a fuse inside the back of the set. Pull the back off and check for a fuse or a burnt component. If you decide to take it in for a local repair, at least you'll know if you're being taken to the cleaners. Cross your fingers that it's just a fuse!

Hello, Last night my Samsung plasma TV made a fairly loud popping sound while I was watching it and then the power went off. When I turned back it on, no picture but sound was o.k.

Yes the caps on theower supply, but you can check power supply board by smell an look for burnt parts it is common. May need more than one board if they are cheap get both.

Watching TV and all of a sudden a loud pop came from the back of the set. Doesn't turn back on after unplugging.

Hello
Check its power supply regulator board. The pop sound you heard may be due to an explosion to any electrolytic capcitors on it. If the line voltage exceeds, this fault will happen. just repalce the damaged component. It is best to replace this board as card basis.

I have a SONY WEGA flat screen, last night while watching tv, there was a loud pop in the tv, now the LAMP light keeps flashing and there is a grinding sound coming from in the set. No Picture, no other...

The loud pop was a capacitor blowing.

The light is flashing because either power board or ballast board is faulty.

Using the TV in this conditions can cause further damage.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

Magnavox 37MF231D 37" LCD TV "popped" now won't turn on at all!

Capacitors tend to pop when they fail. Phillips LCD TVs have lots of problems with capacitor failures in their power supplies. I've got my 37mf231d apart on my workbench as we speak. Mine makes a whistling sound which I believe is either a solder fault or a bad capacitor.

A new power supply board is about $150 for that TV. The gamble, of course, is if the power supply took out something else when it failed.

TV made popping sound and then shut off

You need to look in your owners manual for the telephone number and order a new bulb. It should cost about $200, but they will ship it overnight and minimize your downtime.

I've replaced 2 in my WD-52525 in the last 3 years, the first one went like yours did, very suddenly, with an audible POP!! The second one was preceded by an orange warning light, which the book says is a warning that the bulb has about 20 hours left on it.

To replace the bulb, UNPLUG THE TV, remove the left speaker screen, with a philips screw driver unscrew the bulb, pull it out by the handle, then replace it with the same type, in reverse order. This is a very easy replacement that does NOT need to be done by a service technician to complete.
