My air coinditioner runs for a while and then the scren goes blank and it shuts off. However, the cord is still lit up showing that it is receiving power. Sometimes I can get it to restart by unplugging and plugging back in, but not this time. I am having a dinner party tonight and really need it to work. Please help!

Does the pilot light stay lit if you continually depress the control valve?
If the pilot light stays lit as long as you keep the valve depressed, then the problem is the thermocouple is bad. The pilot light makes enough electricity via the thermocouple to hold open the gas valve that feeds the burners. If the thermocouple fails to produce that electricity, the gas valve will shut down and switch off the gas flow to the whole unit.
Because she ain't gettin confirmation of ignition. Your flame sensor is contaminated most likely. Get a dry brillo pad and clean that dude. Give it the alabama gloss and the mississippi shine then reinstall and retry. I have 2 links. Old school RobertShaw kanthal Spark/sensor notes and Auto cycling furnace easy fix.
I'm assuming you're referring to a gas burner that supplements the heat pump. If the burner lights at all, The ignition system is working. If you need to reset it for it to relight, I would suspect the thermocouple. It detects the flame to prevent gas from pouring out of an unlit burner. If it malfunctions, the control thinks the burner didn't light and shuts down for safety.
Your compressor is trying to restart after it shuts off which is causing a power draw down changing the sound of the fan speed change. Check voltage power supply and insure that the power supply cord is heavy enough to carry the necessary load.
Your power cord is cutting in and out. You either have a bad power cord or there is something wrong with the connection to the cigarette lighter. When the unit say "Running on battery - will turn off in 30 seconds" this mean that it has lost external power. This is by design so that when you shut off the engine external power is cut to the unit and that it will shut down.
It a shame that for the C330 Garmin decided to remove the LED light from the power cord that shows the power cord is connected correctly to the cigarette lighter.
