Issues Displaying picture from HDMI upconversion

Onkyo HT-S6100 system has an issue displaying anything other than HDMI. It is setup with HDMI out to the TV, PS3 hooked up using HDMI to the HDMI 1 input on the unit, and the cable box is setup using component in 2. Now all the assignments are correct, because the system once worked fine with this configuration. The PS3 works fine using HDMI, but the cable box is only getting sound. At first the cable box displayed just fine then gradually it would not get a picture, the reciever had to be turned on and off until the picture display. It got harder and harder to get a picture until it finally just stopped. Now i also tested to see if it was only the cable box by hooking it directly up to the TV, it works fine. I also tried changing the video output of the PS3 to the RCA connection and it would not display either. Another issue is when setup is pressed on the reciever while it is displaying the PS3 image, I do not get the interactive menu on the TV screen i just get the PS3 Screen, but i get the menu on the reciever display. While the Cable is set to display on the TV but is not, and the setup button has been pushed on the reciever the interactive display will not show any image on the TV but will display it on the reciever. I did take the unit in to be fixed, the techs kept it for 3 weeks and could not find any problems. I am not sure what is happening.

I've posted this other places. Hope it helps.

My HT-S6100 had a similar problem with my DVD player and some times with my Cable/DVR box. The signal wasn't getting received at the TV. So, first I changed the input jacks my DVD and Cable box are plugged into on the receiver (e.g. from HDMI 1 & HDMI 3 to HDMI 2 & HDMI 4). Second, I reprogrammed the Input Assignments to match (e.g. HDMI in 2&4). Third, I deleted any Input Assignments that weren't applicable. For instance, I'm only using HDMI connections, but there were Digital and Component Input Assignments programmed in. When I say I deleted them, I actually set them to "----" (just scroll through the options and you'll find this.) Finally, I turn on my video/audio sources (PS3 in your case) and let them load/warm up before I turn on my Onkyo receiver. It seems to be working. Good luck.

My Onkyo S7300 receiver doesn't work, it makes choppy sound why it turns on

this may be the HDMI heat issue i've found with these amps. the issued is caused by the heat produced by the 5V voltage regulator under the HDMI board. once the sound starts to get choppy and or cutting out sometimes with a loud boom. the only way to get around is by installing a fan. First try using a 12V 4Inch fan place it directly on top of the amp cover over the HDMI board use a good Power adapter so the fan runs fast. Now IF it works! I suggest you install a Internal fan I have attached the picture for you to follow. the fan will not be as loud because the supply will be only 6 Volts. NOW TO AVOID THIS ISSUE FROM HAPPENING AGAIN TURN OFF THE HDMI CONTROL UNDER THE HARDWARE OPTIONS. HDMI PASSTRU IS THE MAIN ISSUE HERE. the regulator sits there for hours cooking that board. it's why half of Onkyo HDMI capacitors and regulators die out.Be careful do this at your own risk. High Voltage inside this amp. good luck.mvianna_0.jpg

I have an Onkyo HT-S6100 home theater not sending picture to TV.

I just fixed mine with the same problem. Apparently, the HT-R667 and 606 receiver that comes with 6100 has a problem with the HDMI board. Onkyo wanted $500 dollars to fix it, costed me $16. Here's how to fix it. http://www.highdefforum.com/high-definition-receivers-recorders-players-tivos/121956-repairing-onkyo-htr667-aka-606-a.html

There seems to be a lot of this type of lack of signal (video, audio or both) with this system. I have the same system and the same problem. Mine is working now. I'm using all HDMI connections. I think the other important thing to do is "delete" all Input Assignments that are not being used. By "delete" I mean set the Input Assignments to "----". Let me know if this helps.

I have an HT-S6100 Onkyo Receiver and can't get a picture with the Samsung HD TV. I can get sounds just no picture.

If you are using HDMI, it will not work. your version of HDMI is 1.1 or 1.2 which were riddled with issues. The current version 1.3a is working well "so far" Unfortunately it's not just a firmware update, it's hardware as well. Best way to configure is to run HDMI directly from Cable/DSS receiver directly to TV then run coaxial or optical to receiver. Hope this helps. If you need further info on HDMI issues, Google HDMI problems and you can read for hours.

Connecting a wii to an Onkyo TX-SR607 7.2

I am experiencing issues like this although with a VCR connected with analog video. I added a BluRay DVD player and all of a sudden I lost my video upconversion from my VCR. I am going to try to reset the receiver to see if this fixes the problem. If not, I don't think it is the receiver issue, I think it may be the fact that enorder for video to pass through HDMI, allot of criteria needs to be met. Certain Handshakes need to happen, especially with the HDCP issues. Most likely I will connect a separate video cable to my Plasma and use a secondary input on the Plasma for the VCR signal. You may want to purchase the Component Video adapter for the wii system as this will provide you with at least 480p and your receiver should not have an issue passing the signal over the HDMI output. Good luck and give me an update.

Onkyo HT-S6100 to OPPO Dv 980H to Sony Bravia KDL 40W4100

Make sure none of the Digital or Component Input Assignments are programmed, if you're not using them. Set them to "----". This may help. Some of the Component input assignments may over-ride your other input assignments (perhaps even the HDMI input assignments).

Onkyo HT-SR750

Check out Onkyo's website: The HT-SR 800 description says "a separate audio connection is necessary" Maybe it is true for the --750 too.

Onkyo upconversion problem

I have a dvd player connected via component and I'm having the same problems. Manual via the On Screen Menu - Set the DVD input to "---" and the signal will be upconverted and sent via the HDMI out. This doesn't work for me so I might have other problems but if you haven't tried it, give it a shot.
