Sound cutting out on LG soundbar when used with optical cable to Toshiba TV

Whenever I try to use netflix or just watch TV the sound will cut out in random intervals ranging from 0.5 to 3 sec. I have the TV connected to a LG soundbar with an optical cable. I have tried using different cables and both optical ports in the soundbar with same result. When I run the sound through my PS3 there is no problem with the sound.

I had the same problem even after updating the firmware and changing both sound outputs to PCM. I found a solution though and it's making sure your picture setting is set to Standard. If it is Dynamic, Movie or Natural the sound drops outs between sentences. This happens mainly with Youtube and only certain youtubers so there maybe something in that but the problem goes away when switching back to the TV sound so then again, maybe not.

I should add that this is the second time I've had to deal with this problem and I resolved it previously by switching to Standard picture mode but I'm fairly sure the problem returned. I've literally just finished updating the firmware and switching between the video modes and it is working for now so fingers crossed it sticks this time.

SOURCE: optical output on tv through dvd home cinema out of sync

Up front, i copied this from another site, so kudos to the OP there if this works for anyone...

Hi,
This same problem had been bugging me when I bought my LE37B650, everyone suggested adjusting the delay time on my AV amp but unfortunately mine does not have this function.

Anyway I finally fixed the problem using the following steps

Before you start make a note of your menu settings as you will have to reset them after this procedure

Turn off the TV then press Info -> Menu -> Mute in sequence then turn the TV back on again. This will get you into the secret Service Menu. Go straight to the AUDIO page of the menu. Don't be tempted to fiddle with things in service menu cos you can end up in a right old pickle!

In the AUDIO page you willl notice that there is a time delay set for the internal speakers of 100ms but for some reason this is not set for the external output so all you need do is dial in a 100ms delay there and that should sort the problem. Well it fixed it for me.

Note that as soon as you enter the service menu, all your other standard menu settings are lost and the screen will be set to dynamic for some reason so you have to go through and change everything back after you have done this.

Hope this Helps

This would suggest that you CAN fix the problem with an analog amp.

Also interested to see if a 2 year old thread is alive!

SOURCE: optical output on tv through dvd home cinema out of sync

I just had the same problem. I returned it to currys and got an exchange because I thought there was somethink wrong with the surround sound itself. I have just tried , and left for ages as it goes out of sync gradually as you said ,the red/white cables (rca , i think it's called)and it works perfectely. You can find the wire for quite cheap just type it in google.

Onn 5.1 soundbar works when watching cable but when I try to watch Netflix I have no sound

How is the sound bar connected to your system? Sound bars usually only supply sound from the item it is wired to. For example if it is directly connected to your cable box then it will only supply sound for cable channels. Try connecting it directly to the Audio Out connectors on the back of the TV. This method should produce audio for anything you play on the TV like Cable, DVDs and any built in Apps like Netflix.
The TV itself may have settings you need to change and this could also be the case for the Sound Bar.

How do I link my blackweb sound bar model BWC18SB001 to my Charter cable remote?

Hey Sarah..
My sound bar automatically connected with the charter remote when I connected the sound bar to the TV with the optical cable.. it cuts the TV (LG) and the sound bar off/on using the charter remote. Sometimes it gets out of sync and I have to use the sound bar remote to cut it on/off.. only once and it starts working again.

Got an ONN TV and an ONN soundbar. Hooked up via RCA cable. TV audio in PCM mode. Soundbar in AUX mode. Can't get any sound from soundbar. What have I missed?

PCM mode is a digital audio file that should be sent to the soundbar via an optical or coaxial digital audio cable. The coaxial digital audio cable uses an RCA plug but not the L/R stereo channels of analog audio. The aux input is usually the 3.5 MM cable from a computer, CD or MP3 player or a cell phone or tablet.

First, which type of RCA cable is connected between the sound bar and the TV? Second, are you sure that the TV connection is an audio out? (A number of recent TVs have only one audio output. This means there is only the optical audio out and not even a headphone jack.)

Once you double-check the input at the sound bar, choose the Line In input if you are using the stereo RCA cable. If you are using the Optical input, select that input. Use either the Mode button or the specific input button on the remote. Then double-check that the TV is set for the appropriate audio out.

I hope this helps. Please add a comment with the model of the TV and the sound bar for further information. I looked at the ONB18SB001 documentation for some of this. The manual for this Onn soundbar is available at Manuals Lib. See https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1498038/Onn-Onb18sb001.html?page=12#manual for the list of input modes and the input to which they correspond. Here is the image of the inputs on the back of the ONB18SB001: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1498038/Onn-Onb18sb001.html?page=7#manual .

I have a lg sound bar optical cable but no optical cable on Panasonic tv how do I connect sound bar

Are there any other connector inputs on your soundbar?
If not you may need to purchase a digital to analog converter. Fiio makes one as do many other companies. Easily found on Amazon for about $20.00.
You hook up your tv's RCA audio output to the RCA input on the converter and then the optical cable to the converter then to the soundbar. That's how I would solve this issue.

Bought a lg soundbar and optical cable connected to back of tv with jack adaptor but soundbar won't work can someone tell me if why? Thanks

I am going to guess here that you are running this through an audio system or a cable box. Your audio needs to come form the source, not the TV. Ex. If you were to go optic cable out of your cable box and into the TV optic then you would get sound out of your TV speakers. Go direct to sound bar.

I have just bought a samsung soundbar hw h355 and I'm trying to connect it up to my toshiba tv, via the aux cable but I get no sound from it via the tv link. I works when I link my phone up via Bluetooth....

Please get a optical cable and run it from TV to soundbar for best sound. If you are using aux input on sound bar that will work but it is analog sound. TV needs to have mini audio out or red/white output on it maybe labeled audio out

How do I connect my tablet (on which I'm watching Netflix) to the CHT912 soundbar for listening?

You will need to place the sound bar's Bluetooth feature is "discovery" or "pairing" mode and then follow the tablet's usual method of connecting it to a new Bluetooth device. Once paired you can redirect the tablet's audio to the sound bar. You may also be able to use a 3.5mm to RCA plug cable (usually used to connect PC sound cards to amplifiers or powered speakers) to connect the tablet's headphone jack to the sound bar's A/V audio inputs.

Sound bar compatibility

Make sure red glow is coming from TV's Opt out cable when TV is on. If it is, it is working. The best solution is use an LG soundbar with an LG TV. There is a differnce in digital outputs and with a "service remote" (used by authorized LG servicers) you might be able to change the TVs factory setting to make the vizio soundbar work. but I think you'll be better off with the LG soundbar.
