I just went through kinda the same problem and when I took it completely apart I found the spindle hub was broken on 2 of the 3 supporting arms. they where just eaten up bad/corroded. I had to buy the tub/spin assembly which is the techincal name if you happen to need this part.once you pull tub house out of washer you need to split the tub and then you can see if this is the same problem I had

Kenmore washer model #417.42042100 is not spinning the clothes all the way.

First you need to open the cabinet and remove the boot from the tub to the pump and clear the filter. Try that then run a cycle and post back the results.

Washer shakes real bad in spin cycle

Does it do this when the drum is empty? If not, then you may be overloading the unit with clothes. Or, the clothes may have entangled into a ball. Untangle and spread out.

Rattling noise during spin cycle

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.

Kenmore washer shakes violently during spin cycle

syrny,

Not sure what you did, exactly. First, does the machine shake when spun empty...and then with water only? If so, you have probably failed to tighten something or misaligned something. Go over your work.

No shakes? Rearrange your load. You may have a pair of heavy wet jeans which is throwing the whole thing out of kilter. It only takes about a half pound of sodden clothing to do this.

Washer shakes vigorously

The front 2 legs should be screwed in completely, and locked with the check nut. This means the machine is lowest in the front. If you find any shake (try with both your hands) adjust accordingly. Normally the machine adjusts itself if the weight is un-balanced; but it cannot do anything if the legs are uneven.

For Flinsky:
There could be some spring or shock-absorber come loose inside the machine. Plug off the wall, remove panel behind & check. If you could remove the top to check fine.
