Lens error Hello, my son has a Nikon Coolpix L11 camera. Today he took it to school for the last day of class to get pictures of his friend. He says that when he took the camera out of his pocket, he noticed that the lens was half extended and open. When he turns the camera on, the lens assemply does nothing and the lcd displays a lens error. We have attempted removing the batteries and even trying fresh ones, but to no avail. I'm leary to open the camera without knowing first what I need to be looking for. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

You can also have a look at THIS link.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance.

Regards
Andrea

Nikon coolpix L11 Lens stuck

Try jiggling the lens. Use compressed air to blow out any grit around the lens barrel. If that doesn't do it, you'll need to get the camera serviced.

How can i fix a stuck lens on a Nikon COOLPIX L11?

I have the same problem with my nikon coolpix s200. After 2 months the lens of my camera won't go inside. On the lcd screen stood lens error. I went to a shop with this problem. He took the battery out of my camera and press the off and on button for a while. Then he put the battery back in the camera and press the on button. The lens of the camera was now going inside en outside and inside and outside with a strange noise. And also on the screen stood lens error. Okey, the lens is inside the camera. But how can I fix this camera? What is the problem? What have you done? Please let know..!!

Battery Problem

ITS NOT THE BATTERIES -- check out the internet (google "nikon coolpix battery exhausted" and you'll see hundreds of people are experiencing this glitch. best fix i've found so far: remove batteries and memory card, then replace batteries and try again. Maybe firmware update works too, but this fix is not confirmed.

Lens Error Problem

Hello

there are tiny plastic gears inside and may have chipped or a small piece of sand got in causing the lens to jamb. "very fragile"

one solution is to ask a camera repair shop how much a lens mechanism would be to replace. (if cost is more than 1/2 of what you paid dont bother)

another solution is to have someone sell your camera on an auction site for parts, to make some money towards another camera purchase

Hellp?!

How old is your camera? Is it still under warranty?

From everything i have read, the "Lense Error" is a common defect in these cameras.
Hopefully you will be able to return it and have it repaired for free for you.

Sorry i couldn't be more of a help.
Good Luck.
