Hi, the clutch and agitator mechanism is damaged. you will need to replace the clutch and, i would advise to purchase a complete agitator kit. this will allow you to rebuild the stripped agitator components.

This washer is easy as heck to repair. Don't be scared to repair this washer.
You could have a broken brake cam driver.themobilian_1662.jpg To inspect it you remove the agitator and drop the Tranny. Hay you already had the motor and pump off there so 4 more bolts (3 for the tranny and 1 for the agitator) Slide out the tranny and check the brake cam actuator. The little ear on it breaks off and won't release the brake. The part is held with a small easy to remove C clip. The next thing to do is remove the clutch and tranny cover. Inspect the main drive gear and pinion.themobilian_1663.jpg
If that seems to be good remove the main drive gear and look for a smashed down spin pawl.themobilian_1664.jpgthemobilian_1665.jpgUnder that main drive gear is 3 spin bosses. over time the spin pawl takes a beating catching the boss as the neutral pack pauses from pump out to spin. themobilian_1666.jpgThis is the flip side of the main drive gear. Note the 3 notches. These are claeed bosses. Older model washers would spin and drain at the same time. Newer washers will allow the water to be pumped out first by keeping the spin pawl in check. A built-in pause allows the cent force to toss out the spin pawl where is can catch a boss and take off like Moody's goose in a tailwind. Nothing is hard about repairing this washer. The agitator will not spin. It just goes back and forth

The machine has 1 motor rotating in 2 directions. one direction for agitation ( moving back and forth from one mechanism) the other for spinning (squeezing water out of clothes by another mechanism). The problem with the machine is the mechanism for spinning. The mechanism includes the clutch, the brake, the pulley to push the brake open so the shaft can engage with the turing direction from the motor. The part is cheap, but the labor is expensive since the tube has to be out to replace this. This is the idea to know what the serviceman talks about so you don't get rip-off.

Whirlpool Duet Washer won't spin

Sounds like the whirling noise is the pump, pumping. Does it drain at all? Check the drive belt and make sure that it is not broken. This system uses a drive belt with a clutch system to agitate back and forth. The clutch system could be bad as well.

This might not be a cheap fix, these are the main components of the system

Roper RAX4232KQ0 maker loud noise at spin cycle and then stops

There are a few things that can go wrong, If the washer doesn't adgitate or spin then probably the coupler is broken, lean the washer back and look under the machine between the motor and transmission you will find the coupler. (very common)

Coupler Part# 285753A $22.95

If its agitating but not spinning, check the lid switch, (easy check just listen for the click when you shut the lid, Or you can bypass it with a jumper wire under the console there are only 2 screw that hold the console down they are philips and either located in the front lower corners or the back lower corners)

Lid switch Part# 3949247 $42.95

If lid switch is good and the motor still doesnt run you might have a bad timer (RARE)
Timer Part# 3954563 $95.95

If you can hear the motor running but its not spinning and you have rulled out the coupler then your probably looking at a clutch (common problem) either the clutch isnt grabbing or the brake isnt releasing both problems solved with the clutch kit

Clutch kit Part# 285785 $44.95

Worst case your looking at a transmission, (uncommon) to rule out, make sure its agitating, then put washer in spin cycle. look under the washer to see if the clutch bell is spinning. if its not then you will need a transmission.

Trans Part# 3360629 $172.95

if its making loud noises when it stops spinnig then the block is bad.

Block Part# 389140 $14.95

Clothing stuck on agitator with top loading washing machine

Dear Whitworth,

The agitator's movement back and forth is important for the cleaning of your laundry. If it doesn't function properly, your clothes won't be as clean as possible. If your agitator does not move, moves only in one direction or its movement is very weak, you will probably need to remove the agitator. Furthermore, in order to inspect the tub for leaks, the clutch assembly, the splines, or to remove the spin drum, you will have to remove the agitator.

The agitator is fastened to the agitator shaft and its movement is driven either by splines or a simple clutch assembly. The splines are usually plastic or rubber nubs on a cylinder that fits over the agitator shaft. If the nubs wear down, the shaft will not turn properly or it will turn weakly. If the agitator is moving in only one direction, the likely cause is the clutch assembly. The clutch has dogs that depress and pop up with each turn. If those dogs are worn, they will not engage properly and the agitator will turn only in one direction.
Various makes and models differ in how the agitator is removed. In some newer models, the agitator just lifts straight up and out. However, in most models you will have to do some combination of the following steps. First remove the fabric softener dispenser, if any. It should either lift or screw off. Next remove the cap. It may lift off, screw off or failing that, it may need to be pried off.
Beneath the cap some agitators are secured in place by a bolt. Use a socket wrench with an extension to remove that bolt. Some Maytags may have a screw near to the bottom of the agitator post that must be removed. Now try to lift the agitator straight up, possibly with a little back and forth rocking motion. Use caution when pulling, the agitator may come loose suddenly and hit you in the face or send you flying backward.
If the agitator is particularly stubborn, you can loop some rope under one side of the agitator at the bottom and then up over a broom handle. Now loop it again under the other side of the agitator and back up to the broom. Brace one end of the broom handle against the top of the washer and lift up on the other end. Double check that you have removed anything that may be securing the agitator in place. Do not use too much force or you may damage the washer cabinet, agitator or injure yourself.
