SOURCE: LS4278 scanner can't read digits

Hi, try scanning French Windows barcode from the USB section of the LS4278 Product Reference Guide. The barcode is on Adobe page 147 of 414. You may also have to scan the Enable Keypad Emulation barcode from Adobe page 150 of 414, but I would do this only after testing with the French Windows setting first. I suggest saving a copy of the document before printing the barcodes just to make it easier to print. Hopefully this will resolve the issue.

My canner ls4278 is making a sound and turnin red when i scan
It could be the scanner is not paired to the cradle. The scanner will be once for the barcode and then four times for the communication error. Make sure the cradle has power; it will pull power from a USB port. Scan the pairing barcode on top of the cradle. The scanner will give a high low high low beep and then shortly after give a short low short high beep indicating the radios have paired. If the scanner still beeps four times after doing this, the host type may not be set. If connecting USB scan HID Keyboard from the LS4278 Product Reference Guide.

LS4278 no laser

There are three possibilities I can think of assuming this is not a brand new scanner:

1. The LS4278 is faulty - which given Symbols quality I would say it is normally not the case unless th scanner has been dropped or otherwise damaged.

2. The cradle is not charging the scanner. You may wish to try another cradle - one that you know is charging aother scanner. After a few minutes you should be able to see the laser.

3. The battery in the scanner either needs a recondition (see product reference guide), or needs replacement.

Hello Lynda,
this seems to be an error with the charging system of the scanner. As you stated the error occurs also with other battery. Just check if the scanner is in warranty and send it for repair.
It could work also with this error, but the charging will not work correctly. As the temperature error is safety measure which stops the charging until the status get changed.

How can you use a symbol model ls4278 with a usb converter for the ps/2 plug?
The scanner will probably give you error beeps because you are not using a PS/2 keyboard. All you should have to do is scan the IBM AT Notebook barcode from the LS4278 Product Reference Guide. The link below will take you to the manual and the barcode is on Adobe page 104 of 418. I would suggest saving a copy then printing just the page you need.

If the scanner does not start working immediately you should reboot your computer.
