SOURCE: DVD PLAYER
I used the suggestions from post 1 and they are sending me a 2007 dvd player and I don't even have to pay shipping. This will at least get you a free replacement that works!

Sounds like the player has a dvd mech/picup problem, will probably require a repair that is more expensive than a new player, they are as low as $30 and personally I dont even try to repair my own, I just go buy a new one. There may have been some dirt on the disc that is blocking the laser if you want to try a cleaning disc I doubt it would hurt it anymore.

jusguessin should call Toshiba quickly. The units have a 1 year
warranty. Do not open the unit or it will void your warranty (I know, I
do Toshiba warranty repairs on their recorders. If anything will make
be void a warranty, it's a consumer who opens the unit and pokes around
inside).
mooch, clean the laser head. I wish I could refer you to a FAQ because this is about the 10th time today I have written this.
Open the unit. Remove the DVD drive. Take the top off of the DVD drive.
Clean the lense with a q-tip with a little windex on it. Work the head
up and down gently. Reassemble and test. If problem presists, go buy a
new one.

With some models of DVD player I know you can download a firmware update on your PC, load it to the DVD player and it wil fix some issues.
Finding those sites for download may be difficult though.
