Evo n1020v screen problem

When I switch on the computer, sometimes the screen works right, but several times it stays black although the computer runs right if I connect an external screen. It doesn't matter if I use battery or 220v, the problem is the same. Will it have solution? thanks

If you hear the hard drive spinning and you think Windows is working but you can't see an image then :-
You could have a defective screen - a defective inverter or a CCFL lamp or simply the video cable needs reseating. After reseating the video cable and the problem is still there then :-
To determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow the instructions.

Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom:

  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display or appear black.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

I have a Compaq N1020v with a 14.1 display. The LCD was cracked and I plan to replace it. I would like to replace it with the 15 inch display for the Compaq N1020v. Will that work, or is the 15.0 to big?

It depends on how "adaptable" the mounts on the "surround" of the LCD screen, i.e., whether the one "surround" was used by COMPAQ for both 14" and 15" LCD screens, or whether the part-numbers were different.

I have a Compaq Evo N1020v and I tried to reinstall the operating system and now I am getting "Error loading operating system". This is an older computer but it was working fine up to a few days ago....

"tried to" do you mean it finished installation and it was succesful? I doubt that

I think you realy have to do the installation again
the best way is to delete all partitions and format
after.

Computer wont boot

Try disambling the system. Clean it with a wind blower. Check BIOS battery capacity. Replace if possible. Power on the laptop. Do you hear humming sound from hard disk ? If you hear sssssssshhhhh sound from hard disk; it's OK. Replace RAM with new one. If problem still exists Than change main board. Hope that not happen. Keep informing.

My compaq evo n1020v freezes,on restarting blank screen

First conclusion: This is not a software fixable problem. If your notebook is still in warranty, I suggest you to RMA it. No doubt somethings broken.

MY LAPTOP COMPAQ N1020 V HAS A BOOTING PROBLEM

I'm not sure what good getting into safe mode is going to do?

More than likely this is a hardware problem - If you have already tried different RAM the next thing would be CPU. You may be able to just reseat the CPU in it's socket to help things out.

On the N1020v to access the CPU, you just have to remove 2 screws underneath the power button strip and then the keyboard just pops up. Remove the heatsink and the CPU is right there. If you want to replace it use the part number on the CPU itself (something like SL245)

To forewarn you though - i have worked on these laptops many times and more often the problem is a failing motherboard than a bad CPU or RAM. However it is worth a shot at fixing it if it just needs a CPU.

Good luck!

Screen display

If the power saving settings on the screen brightness is ok, then the backlight on the screen maybe on it's way out.
