How to setup digital audio in - Marantz SR-5200 Receiver

The Audyssey setup does not use any audio from the TV. Audyssey is started automatically when you plug in the calibration microphone. Once you start the setup, it will output a calibration tone to each speaker. (Read the Audyssey setup instructions.) There is 1 digital audio optical input on the back of the NR1403. You will need a optical digital cable for the connection. Once connected, you'll need to use the input setup menus to select that digital sound input to go with the video input you are watching. Check page 15 of the manual.

Here is a possible solution to this problem, assuming the DVP5982 is connected to the tv with an HDMI cable.


Press setup on the remote control of your DVP.
· Go to the Audio Setup icon with the right arrow button
· Press the down arrow button to select DIGITAL AUDIO SETUP and press the right arrow button.
· Go to DIGITAL OUTPUT with the cursor buttons and press the right arrow button.

· Go to PCM ONLY with the down arrow button and press OK to confirm
· Press setup to leave the menu.

The DVP5982 will now send analogue stereo audio to the tv.

This may require quite a bit more info. Verify that there are no shorts in the speaker connections to the Denon - it has a short detection circuit that will shut down the audio amps in the event of a short. If you are using optical or coaxial digital input for you audio - verify that the correct digital input has been assigned to the component selected on the Source Select dial: Menu > Source Select > Assign > Digital. If this is an HDMI connection go into the HDMI setup menu and select Audio: AMP: Menu > Manual Setup > HDMI Setup > Audio > AMP. If it is set to TV the audio passes through the AMP without being decoded and goes to the TV instead: there is no 'Both' setting.

On the remote press Home-> Setup -> and the Audio and make sure it is configured properly to the interface you're using. If the audio setup looks ok suspect a bad HDMI or audio cable or an issue with the TV.

This is how AUDIO works in HDMI setup, you can select the source to send the digital audio along with the digital video through HDMI, the receiving end HDMI sound setup must be set to receive the digital audio through HDMI. Otherwise the audio may be sent and received through analog audio ports (Red (Right channel) and White (Left channel) RCA jacks) in stead. Most of the new TV and DVD player use auto detection.
So please check the HDMI audio setup to see how the audio signals are set to be processed.

Are you using single digital coaxial or optical digital or the stereo RCA cable.
You might have that buttons on the remote for surround,2channel,3channel or 5.1 channel. orGo to the DVD's setup menu and click on "Audio Setup" or on "Languages" if there is no Audio Setup option and choose "Dolby Digital 5.1." (If you have a5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 system select "Dolby Digital EX" if it is an available option.) Depending on the age of the disc, the "Audio Setup" on the DVD menu may give you several choices: "5.1 Channel Surround Sound" or "Stereo Playback." If it's an old DVD, it might even say Dolby AC-3 (the professional designation for Dolby Digital 5.1). New DVDs may offer "Dolby Digital 5.1" and "Dolby Digital 2.0," the latter being stereo. Some of the disc menus offer only "Surround Sound" or "Stereo" options.

The other players need to be setup to output digital sound. Assuming you are using a digital or optical audio cable, go into the setup screen of the Blu-Ray or Tivo etc. and select the audio setup screen. Set the audio output to PCM.

I can't imagine your setup. Box, tv and pc speakers?
Typical setup would be box, tv and some kind audio system with optical IN. Correct wiring would be connect box to tv via scart and connect optical cable from BOX to audio system. You have to go from box not from TV since scart connection doesn't carry audio signal. To have TV to output optical audio out you would have to connect it to box via hdmi.

There is a setting in the setup menus of your PS3 to enable digital optical output. You will also need to go into the setup of your amp or AV receiver to tell it that you wish to use digital optical audio, and associate it with the PS3 source selection.

The Philips DVP5982 has an odd menu setup for the HDMI sound.
If you get sound from the analog outputs from the unit, but no sound when you use the HDMI output, use this procedure to see if you can restore it:

On the remote control, press Setup.
- Right cursor to the Audio Setup Page
- Go down to Digital Audio Setup
-Right cursor, to get to the screen that shows

Try to go up to the Digital Output setting- if you can't , and instead it shows only HDMI Audio Setup with the "On" highlighted in blue, this is the quirk:

Go into the HDMI Audio Setup, and select "Off", and press Enter, so it's highlighted in blue.

Now it should let you go into the Digital Output menu selection, where you may find it to be on the "Off" setting.

Select "All", and then you can go back to the HDMI Audio Setup and set it to On again, and it should now output sound from the HDMI again.

For some reason, they decided to lock out the Digital Output settings menu when the HDMI Audio is On- go figure.

So you need to turn off the HDMI sound before you turn the sound on.. ;)
