My 2002 Sable shakes intermittently with varying intensity when I accelerate my car. It happens at any speed and on flat or slopped surfaces. Also, the check engine light comes on intermittently. Sometimes the light stays on for a week straight, other times, it stays on for a few days at a time, goes off for a few days, and then comes back on. The last time I took the car to my mechanic about it, he replaced a spark plug. The problem has continued. The car is in the shop again, and no one there has been able to properly "diagnose" my car. Any thoughts?
You describe this as an acceleration problem however, if the car does throw a check engine light it should be recorded in system memory so it can be pulled by scanning with and OBDII scanner. It sounds as if the car is being starved for fuel on acceleration. Check the fuel lines for kinks as well as check the fuel pressure. The problem could be a faulty fuel pump that has yet to completely die.
