26 inch Samsung LCD TV

I hsve a 26 inch LCD SAmsung purchased new in August 2006. Model #

 LN-S2641D

Twice over past month I have had a bright flash across centre of screen (diagonal) a miilisecond in duration. I seem the picture is split in half for that duration.  I only had 1 year warranty so am curious as to how serious the problem is.  Otherwise everything seems to be normal

I would take advantage of the warranty before it runs out.  These things can be expensive to fix out of warranty.

    I'm sorry Jim, I didn't pay attention to when you bought it.  There are a number of things that can cause a flash like that, poor signal, short in the cabling, bad system boards, etc.  Needless to say, I would start small with your troubleshooting, changing cables, try different input devices, etc. Mostly, it's a matter of reproducing the problem so that you can eliminate potential causes.  In my opinion, it may not seem like a big problem now, but it could end up with you replacing the TV sooner than you had hoped.

Go into settings menu on your screen setting and change the PAL/NTSC settings Aust uses a different format to the US. Try "Auto" first if you have that option.

Sound yes, but no picture on tv

If you have sound on the stations this is a problem in the display. Take bright flashlight and hold it against the screen. Look for an image around the edge of the flashlight. If you see an image then it's one of three problems;
1) The inverter board is bad.
2) The CCFT (cold cathode fluoresent light) are bad.
3) The power supply to the inverter board is bad.
Someone knowledgeable in electronics can replace the bad part(s).
