How do I install a dry well in my in ground pool
To install a drywell(or sump pit) you will need to dig a hole beside the pool(usually les than 3' from the pool wall or in the same backfill material as close to the the overdig for the pool as possible. The goal here is to get down the the bottom of the pool wall in the backfill material so you can access the ground water that is accumulating around the pool to pump it out. Dig a large enough hole that you can install either clay tile, "Big O", 8" plastic pipe or something that will allow you to lower a submersible pump down and pump the ground water out. Keep in mind that it will be perminently in the ground and needs to hold back the surrounding soil or backfill. It's a good idea to drill several holes around the pipe as well as up a few feet from the bottom to allow for the water to pass into the pipe. Lower the pipe into the hole you've dug, fill the outside with clear gravel to the just below the top of the pipe then lay some filter cloth on this stone. Top it off sixth some soil and cover the pipe opening with your choice of either a decorative patio stone or flagstone. It's a good idea to peek inside the pit weekly to pump out any water. Especially in the spring and fall when the pool has been shut down for the year if your in a climate that this is necessary
