Panasonic CT-36G24A Horazontal Hold

I have a Panasonic Model CT-36G24A Chassis No. AP332. The horizontal hold is not working properly. Sometimes when the set is turned on the horizontal is ok and sometimes it is compressed down to 3 inches. When the front panel is tapped it corrects itself. It holds sometime and sometimes not.Does anyone have a idea what the cause is? A cold solder joint , a dirty pot etc. And if possible the location of the suspect.

  • your problem is in the vertical output section as you have already mentioned that compressed down to 3 inch
  • if is is some times then you will have to check
  • loose contact in electrolytic capacitor in vertical output section
  •  it will be dry or some print cut must be there.you solder it.
  • it is best thing to replace all electrolytic capacitors in vertical output stage.they are hardly two or three.
  • it is a common failure,& not a major problem.
  • as per location of the suspect is concern it in the section from where the wires are going to crt neck.

been a long time since fixed an crt tv. but if you have a stand by light the problem on this model is the control chip if remember right it sits on the left side near to the front. think its an 8 pin chip. these just go and it will not turn on. these chips are easy to get hold of and are cheap. you just need to remove it and replace with a new one. and the tv will work again. its not on the power board but is controlling the power start up. if there is no stand by light its a longer problem to solve. it could be a number of problems. would need to know if any problems happened before the tv did not turn on.

CHECK FOR BROKEN SOLDER AROUND THE STANDBYE TRANSFORMER FIRST
you must pull chassis check and resolder all transformer pins on underside ir diode is front of chassis in line with tack switches
check for 5volts replace if bad

It sonds like bad solder connections on the vertical IC.IF you remove the back flip up the p.c.board and inspect it you should be able to locate the problem resolder it and save repair cost.Becareful of wires and plugs if you have to mark them.

Horizontal white lines across top of TV screen
Vertical hold circuit is failing.

Check capicitor in vertical hold circuit. You should have solid knowledge of electronics repair before attemping repair. TV's can emmit harmful radiation, and produce voltages up to or in excess of 30kV.

I would suggest to locate a part that looks like the one on this link and re solder all the pins, also check for any high power resistor nearby the IC295890 and put some fresh solder.

Cant turn off panasonic PIP
To turn off the "stuck" pip on a Panasonic tv without a remote, turn off the tv. Then hold down the "Action" button on the front of the tv and press the power button. This will activate a reset and self check of the systems and voila! The pesky pip screen will be gone! This is on an approximately 10 year old regular crt "CT-xxxxx" series tv.

Your vertical output IC has stopped working. This is usually caused by the solder joints cracking loose and the IC will either short out inside or just stop working. Sometimes a small capacitor next to the IC, called the pump-up cap, will go bad and cause the IC to fail. In any case, the vertical output IC should be resoldered or replaced and all circuits checked by someone experienced in repairing TV's.

Buzzing sound, no picture on my Panasonic TV
You might have a short causing the set not to start. Probably in the horizontal/high voltage circuit. The buzzing sound that you're hearing is the power supply overloaded. Stargazer
