My unit stops running, I can hear the switch click, but then the unit will not run. Only sometimes, is so bad that my freezer had thawed completely a couple times, and my fridge has spoiled my milk.

Many times a freezer and/or refrigeratordo not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many otherthings that can go wrong.
If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing thencheck out the last two tips.
If your refrigerator is running but warm, then...
Check out these tips that I wrote about that... it is a great place to starttrouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then callinga repair person to do a simple thing for you...

is the compressor running if so try this.
1. is light on in side when you open the door. If not check breakers or fuses. 2. Can you hear the compressor running. If not do you hear any clicking sounds. 3. If you hear clicking sounds, try putting a fan on compressor and unplug refrigerator. 4. Wait one hour. 5. plug back in. If compressor starts let it run and see if it cools, if it doesnt, call service man. 6. If it goes back to clicking, call a service man. let me know.
The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp. The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too. For a quick fix in this situation just thaw the coils out with a hairdryer.
need to check for ice build up in air vent. if not make sure you hear your evap fan blowing in the freezer section. this blows your cold air into the fresh food side. do you have ice build up on rear wall of freezer section?
you need to replace the start components on the compressor, theres a relay that mounts on to the compressor that takes out the start winding after it starts the compressor up. You can also try whats called a three in one to try to start up the unit. Good Luck.
I turned off the refrigerator and left the freezer door open so the coils and the vents could thaw out. The cold air was not getting to the refrigerator section because of ice blocking the vents.
check in the rear of the unit u will need to pull it out and remove the panel see if the fan (Condenser) is running is the compresser running?? is the compresser hottt?? do you hear a hum and then a click noise?? is the condenser dirty?? remove the front kick plate to see this.. After you have cked these things let me know and we can go from there
If the frost build up is on the back panel of the freezer then it has a defrost problem which causes a no cool situation. Let me know more about this frost buildup and what you have done.
