HP Deskjet F4280 scanning problem

Am unable to get HP Solutions Center to open. The printer works fine as printer & copier, but am unable to scan.
When launching HP Solution Center, a small grey screeen opens, followed by this error message: "No HP devices have been detected. HP Solution Center will close now." when I click "OK", it does in fact close.
HP was unable to help me after 90 minutes on chat session. Ugh!

SOURCE: HP Deskjet F4280 Ink Level

Hi,
when you refill the cardtridge, you can not reset the ink level... because refilling doesn't show the ink levels.. you no need to worry. if ink is there in the carttridge it will print...
Shouldn't worry about it. They are only a rough guide. The only time to worry about it is when the printer stops working and it has told you it's run out of ink! Thank you.......

SOURCE: HP Deskjet 4280 scanner problem

Possible causes

  • The system resources are too low to facilitate scanning.
  • The USB controller is sharing an Interrupt Request (IRQ) with another device.
  • There are multiple entries (ghost entries) of the scanner in the Device Manager.
Step 1: Open the System Information tool Windows 98, Me, and 2000 Pro Click Start , Programs , Accessories , System Tools , and then System Information . The Microsoft(R) System Information window opens. Microsoft® Windows XP Click Start , Help and Support , Tools , My Computer information , Advanced System Information ,and then Detailed System Information (msinfo32.exe) . The Microsoft System Information window opens. Step 2: Verify the available system resources If the system resources available are below 50%, the scanner may have difficulty transferring the scanned image to the computer and will stop in the middle of a scan.
NOTE: Windows XP does not give system resource information in the System information window. Skip to Step 3 if using Windows XP.
  1. Select the System Information linein the left side of the System Information window.
  2. In the right side of the System Information window, verify that System Resources are 50 percent or above.
  3. If the System Resources are lower than 50 percent, increase system resources .
Step 3: Check for IRQ sharing between USB and other devices The USB controller normally shares an IRQ with the IRQ Holder for PCI Steering device. While this device does not cause any conflicts, other devices on the same IRQ may cause a conflict.
  1. With the System Information tool open, click the plus ( + ) next to Hardware , then IRQ’s . In the screen to the right, information about will appear showing which IRQ a device is using.
  2. Verify the USB controller is on an IRQ with nothing else sharing it except the IRQ Holder for PCI Steering. Examples of USB controllers are listed below:
    • Sis 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller
    • Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
    • Intel 82801 BA/BAM USB Universal Host Controller
  3. If the USB controller is sharing an IRQ with another device besides the IRQ Holder for PCI Steering, contact the computer manufacturer for assistance in moving it to another IRQ.

SOURCE: Paper stuck in carriage of HP Deskjet F4280

Hello there
You may not see a paper jam.

This may work for you, it has worked for many here I given this advice so gave it a try it could work for you. Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.

First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.

If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there.

And gave the rode that the ink slides on a good clean and maybe a bit oil on cloth and wipe the rod with it.

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

My HPc310 continues to tell me to "start scan from computer. refer to documentation" how to I stop this and scan TO the computer?

The Scan button behavior hasn't been set up on the computer. If you haven't installed the Full feature software, go to http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=4231205& . Select your OS and then Next. Select the second option under Drivers.

If you installed the Windows OS basic driver, uninstall that driver and disconnect the data cable.

Once this software is installed, double-click on the HP Solutions Center. Try to scan once to find the best settings. Then in the Settings section of the software, you can set the Button destinations. Set the Scan-to button.

Now if the software is monitoring the printer, pressing the scan button will launch the HP Solution Center scan.

I hope this helps.

My HP Photosmart C6280 All in One will not scan or copy.....it comes back as unable to scan or copy. I have reinstalled the full feature software

Its not software issue, for copying you need not required any software just plug in power & take copy, if copy is not happening, its definitely printer faulty only..
Open flat bed, check scan head, mechanism & cable,if found any breakage in mechanism, scan head or cable, replace it & check..If its difficulty for you submit unit in service center..

We have( several years now) a HP photosmart 2575 All-in-One , we need to scan documents, it was never set up to do that ,we have misplaced the manual as to set it up to our computer. can you help

1) Make sure that you have the HP driver and full-software installed. Go to http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=&cc=us&product=441240& , select your OS and click Next. Then click on Driver to download it. If you installed the generic driver from the OS, uninstall it and unplug the data cable (if USB) before installing. For some of OS versions, even if you do have the full software, check the version you have, some need to be patched. All of the support for this all-in-one is available here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?lc=en&dlc=&cc=us&product=441240 .

2) Place the document to scan face down on the glass or face up in a Automatic Document Feeder (ADF).

Next you can scan from the computer before you can scan using the buttons on the printer. If you want to use the scan buttons, you will need the full software installed and the monitor program running. Then you need to set the button destinations in the HP Solution Center before the buttons will work. Launch the HP software (Start > All Programs > HP > HP Solution Center (some HP printers have a slightly different program but it will be in the same HP folder). Launch the scan and set the resolution and destination folders. Windows computers can also scan from the computer with Paint (File > Import from Scanner or Camera) or Windows Fax and Scan (Vista and Win7).

If you have problems, check the USB cable first. Scanners require bi-directional communication with the computer. Thus they fail when the printer works. Make sure that the scanner is unlocked if a lock exists.

I hope this helps.

I have a HP F4280 printer/copier/scanner. "MFC HP Scan application has stopped working." I get this message when I scan but only if I change settings, eg change colour to greyscale. It suggests...

I am not a tech geek so bear with me I am going to walk through it on my computer and tell you how to in theory get where you want to get. Hopefully it works, let me know either way. Unfortunately for you, I locate files via the explore feature so that is the only way I can find it again. Hopefully this works for you.

Right click on the Windows Icon in the bottom left hand corner of your computer (same as the start button for other features with a left click)

-Click on Explore
- Find and click on Program files
- Find and click on HP folder or Hewlett Packard Folder

-Find and Click on Digital Imaging Folder
-Double Click on BIN folder
-Find the following file: hpqscnvw
-Double click on that file (hpqscnvw)

Your HP scanning feature should open

I am thinking I may just create a shortcut of this and launch from that instead of HP solutions center if HP cannot fix this issue.

Let me know if this works for you.
