The TV keeps shutting off. The TV can stay on for as little as two minutes to as long as 2 hours. The TV was purchased in 2002 . The light on the front blinks on and off. I am a technician and can fix it if you have any suggestions.

This sounds like a heat related problem, which could be a faulty chip or a cold (bad) solder joint on one of the PCBs (printed circuit boards). Due to the lethal voltages present inside a CRT type television, it is strongly advised to have this repaired by a qualified technician. however, if you or someone you know is technically inclined, you can try to fix this yourself. Cold solder joints can often be spotted by visible cracks in the solder joints. a through inspection of all the boards could easily identify the problem which can be resolved with a quick tap with a soldering iron and perhaps a little extra solder added to the joint. if that yields nothing, another method is heat/cold stressing the boards while the TV is running. With the TV on, spray small areas of the PCBs with cold spray (or a can of compressed air duster turned upside down) until the tv shuts off. then heat the last sprayed part with a hot air gun (or a hair dryer) until you can get the problem to repeat regularly. inspect the area causing the problem and you will probably find the culprit.
Did you repair the two leads? Ao check near the Convergence ICs for an open resistor or two, although that shouldn't effect your audio. Yu most likely have a low voltage regulator or bad capacitor. You will probably need the service manual to actually track it down. I will post a link where you can ge one for 12.99 and the include free unlimited support. They will also email it instantly to you if you return to the site and send them an email requesting they email it to you. You sound like you could fx it with the service manual and some guidance. This shutting on and off~On Durabrand TV`S. If your Tv Turns Off after about 1-11/2 minutes after turning it on then you need to replace your batteries in your remote control with BRAND NEW BATTERIES or it will keep doing it. It is a real pain in the behind especially if you dont have brand new batteries handy!
the problem may be due to dry soldering in the power supply stage if it was with the lamp there would be red or green light showing the presence of the power to the tv after making it own some of the components get hot and it will make the the soldering point conectionless and after some time the heat sink get cooled and the soldering point gets connected and u will see the picture again it is a simple problem if u have a soldering iron u make it hot and re solder all the components in the first part of the circuit board and the problem if rectified
