the cpu shut down out of the blue
i had a black dos screen come up with the usual safe mode options or start normally
after that it loads only it appears to be running slower (memory?)
the flickering occurs more frequently now but after the cpus been on a while (could it be the connections?)
i am using norton and have spybot done the scans haven't found anything so its all quiet on that front
seems to be working ok atm
(fingers crossed eh?!)
thanks for helping us out
If the screen is flickering a lot, it could be the backlight--does it have a manual brightness switch (like a slider switch)?
It also could be the video card, but I'm inclined to think it's the flourescent backlight.
You say it turned off by itself? Did the monitor just go black or did the computer actually shut down?
Yes, it could be the connection to the LCD, but one thing I would try is to blow the dirt out of all the spaces in the computer that might affect cooling.
Have you tried, also, to run disk checking for errors (scandisk)?
Another question (maybe silly, but...) are you running a good anti-virus product? Have you been scanning for viruses. You might want to try one of the online scanners just in case. You can use Trend (www.trendmicro.com) or Panda (www.pandasoftware.com)
